Online Will

My husband and I have been getting things in order and are in vital need of creating a Will to be sure that our son and assets would go where we want them to in the event something would happen to both of us. We were told that we could do this online but that they are state specific. Does anyone have any advice on what you used or at least point us in the right direction? Thanks!

What can I do next?

Just go to a lawyer. It's not that expensive.
Get it done right.

We bought a create a will software package. I don't know about the online.....we liked the idea of being able to print it out whenever we wanted or to change it as well.......

Hopefully someone will have a better answer for you....take care....

I am an attorney and I will tell you that you should either buy a reputable software package that will make it state specific or hire an attorney. I drafted my own and since this is not my area of expertise, it took a while.

The online and software ones may cover the basics....but most of what they will cover would be covered by the state intestacy laws if you and your husband died without a Will anyway (division of the estate, etc). What you likely want to deal with in your Will would be guardianship for your son, a trust for any life insurance proceeds to pour into, etc. These may or may not be covered by any online or software programs. If you go to a general practioner (guy who does it all) attorney in your state, he or she can give you a flat rate, tailor it to your specific needs, and make sure it complies with all the state requirements so it isn't ultimately thrown out of probate.

Best wishes,
A.

You can make an online will and get it notarized. It may or may not hold up in court if there are complications, so it's best to get it through a lawyer, but in the meantime, it's better than nothing.

You could always call your states' attorney general or law office to see if there are any legit online wills you can use.
