Good afternoon!!! I am looking to complete my master's degree, but definately know I don't have time to do it traditionally since I have to work full time and raise 2 wonderful young children. I am looking for a great online master's program in social work, or a related field, but everything I seem to find online does not seem very good even if it is accredited. Any ideas, resources, etc? Thanks so much!!!

K.

You should look into the University of Phoenix. They have great Masters programs that are 100% online. You only take 1 class at time 6 weeks in length and you should be completed within 18 months. They are also Regionaly Accredited which is the best a school can receive.

First I will start off saying I work for a regionally accredited 100% online University. I will not say which one as I do not want to bias anything but I do want to be honest. There are several great traditional universities that offer online programs and there are some universities that are dedicated to online. There will be advantages and disadvantages to each. As one person posted, U of I might be more readily recognized than Walden, Phoenix, AIU Online or CTU Online. On the flip side, many times Universities that are dedicated to online learning will have the technology and a style of learning superior to many others. This is because they did not convert an existing classroom to a virtual classroom. They created something from scratch for the purpose of online learning.

checking any University out make sure it is regionally accredited and find out what requirements they have of their students. Some online universities are truly asynchronous and others require you to be online at specific times (which defeats the purpose of going online in my opinion). I would be more than happy to offer you additionally information. I will not push on you towards the Universities I work with but can give you some insight on what to look for and what might be best for you. If you would like, please send me an email and we can chat some more. If not, check out the places listed below and see if something works for you. This list is not all inclusive – it is just a starting place:

Walden University
American InterContinental University Online
Capella
Kaplan
University of Phoenix - Online
Colorado Technical University Online
DeVry

Check out online courses from an accredited university. U of I extention program etc. Just check out the different universities in Illinois and see what they have to offer. I don't know if this helped a lot, but I am going through the same thing right now.lol I am looking into U of I extention programs. Have a good day.

Just make sure your profession sees it as a viable degree. Many on-line places are not taken seriously...just be careful

Hi K. P,

I am interested in attending a Masters Program online with my current university. I have already inquired about it with a counselor and I'm just waiting for her to get back to me. Below explains what I have been doing over the past three years.

Hello to All the Moms,

I just wanted to finally have a chance to respond to you all. I do apologize for not participating all of this time, but I have been dealing with some severe health problems with me and my youngest son. I have a form of Lupus called Sojgren's Syndrome, Osteoarthritis in hips, Degenerative Disc Disease in my lower back and Raynaud's Disease in my hands and feet.
On the other hand my youngest some was dealing with some severe stomach problems over the past month and I was running back and for to the doctor with him.

Also, during all of this I have been in the process of completing my Bachelor's Degree online through the University of Phoenix. I will be officially done on March 10, 2008. Graduation will be held on June 7, 2008.

However, I have had the opportunity to read some of the comments you all have posted and they were very interesting. Maybe once I am done with school, I will be able to participate more.

Sincerely,J.
A little bit about me: I have been married for 10 years and I have three beautiful children Ariel 15, Aaron 11 and Avery 10.

Troy State University (Alabama) has quite a few good programs, I am not sure about social work, though. They are accredited by (I think) the North Central Association- regional accredidation is be better than national or higher. www.tsulearn.net.

I took a few classes towards my MS through them and they seem to be a pretty good school. The University of Maryland also has many distance learning programs- I am not sure about master's though. Good Luck!

I just completed my first year of online college at the University of Phoenix. It was wonderful, a bit demanding, but as flexible and smooth as I made it. Some instructors will hold firmly to policy, and others will bend, but it is worth every bit of effort. Math is the most difficult online because it is so much more than reading and research, but that was actually doable, also. The academic advisor I had made a huge difference. When she left, the newer, younger ones really dropped the ball, but you are experienced enough to check up on them!! :o)

I got a masters degree through Indiana University several years ago. I was very pleased with it, and since they are a "real" college I felt that the program would be seen as more legitimate than others. I am not sure if they offer a program you are interested in, but it's worth checking out.
Good Luck,
J.
