One Year Old Party

Today my baby turns one year old! I thought it would be fun for us to share our stories of what we did for our babies' first party.
For my three year old it was a snowman theme. She was in love with snowmen at the time of her first birthday! Luckily, her birthday is February 1st, so I got a bunch of stuffed snowmen on clearance and filled a part of our living room with them. I then found a pan that had six little snowmen as molds for cakes. I made her a little snowman cake and then used three different shape round cakes to make a huge snowman cake for the adults. We just had a few close friends and family here for the big day.
For my baby girl, tonight we are going to have cupcakes and open presents. My mom is in town to celebrate. Next weekend we are going to have a big party with my husband's family. My baby girl loves balls right now. She loves to throw, roll, play keep away with them. I found a little cake mold shaped like a ball. I also have a larger one that is a soccer ball but it's flat on the bottom. I'll use that for the big people and my baby will most likely throw her cake at us!
Anyone else want to walk down memory lane with me? :)

What can I do next?

For my son's 1st birthday we did a jungle theme. He is our little monkey, so we felt it was fitting. We had it outdoors, decorated like a jungle. Had jungle treats and cake. It was a lot of fun. His 2nd birthday though was my favorite. He was born during football season and we are diehard Clemson fans. So his 2nd Bday party was a tailgating theme. Everything decorated like for Football and in Clemson. He wore a clemson jersey. Everyone wore their favorite team colors. We had tailgaiting food. Wings, hotdogs, chips and more. It was a great time.

My daughter turned one on July 6th, so with a Fourth of July Family Reunion already planned, we decided to decorate the garage in an "under the sea theme" - it is amazing what fish netting can do! Her fish cakes were a hit! I made four large fish (each a different primary color) then a smaller fish cake for her to dig into along with tiny blue cupcakes for bubbles. It was a BLAST!
We didn't live near any family when my son turned one so the attendance for his one year celebration was quite different! But to keep it fair, we invited several friends over for a big BBQ Bash. My son LOVED the green lizard puppet from Baby Einstein so I decided to decorate in the Baby Einstein theme. His cake was the caterpillar (I wasn't sure how to create the lizard or seaturtle so easily - haha). I used the sports ball cake pans (half circles) to create the caterpillar humps, coloring each one a different primary color. It was AWESOME!
They grow too fast! Thanks for the stroll down memory lane!!! ~P.:)

Great idea, K.!

We had a party for family and friends. It was part pool party and part brunch. We lived in TX at the time and had La Madeleine cater the food (the individual quiches). We had personalized balloons made up that said "Woobie's One!" which was the name my husband made up for her when she was in my belly. It was definitely a party for the adults and she was blissfully unaware it was in her honor!

Thanks for allowing me the pleasure of that memory. S.

Hello K.

We got all out for birthdays. It is the one and only time of the year that we have people at our house. We had 30 people at his 1st birthday. We ended up with Bob the Builder because my husband is in construction and it fit. We did all appetizers that I picked up from Wal-Mart. We had about 7 babies crawling around in our living room and fighting over toys. My son smashed his cake got a quick bath and ended up falling asleep shortly after. Some of the guests were still there at 10:00 and my birthday boy was sound asleep. Something I will never forget was the icing on his smash cake was mostly blue. He ate a good bit of that cake. For a week my sons butt was dyed blue. He had blue poop for about 2 days and his whole butt was blue. My husband saw it the second day and thought there was something wrong!

Hi there! When our daughter turned 1, we were having a Labor Day Picnic with our church. I brought a cake in the shape of Winnie the Pooh with a Honey Pot. The icing was Whip Cream colored with gels that professional bakers use. She loves winnie the Pooh. She is now 9 years old. For our son, he had a cake with Hot wheels on it. He is now 6.

My son just turned 3 last week and I have be walking down memory lane with my husband who is tired of it by the way so it excited me to talk with other proud mommies when I came upon this website. For his first birthday we had a sports themed party. My husband and I both love sports especially College basketball. Yes I know I am a freak but I love ESPN and UNC TARHEELS. We had a huge party in the church fellowship hall with app. 80 people and had a cake made like a baseball field and had decorated will many types of sports. My husband umps for the state of NC and he and his father were umpires and Refs for games. It was fun because every one got involved and even the men seemed to have a good time.
For the second birthday I did a cookout at our house and we did CARS. It was fun and everyone ate and played outside. Lucky because beautiful weather. We did sidewalk chalk, frisbies, kites and just let the kids have fun. This year was cold and we had to stay in but did Power Rangers. I even had my brother call and pretend to be the red and blue rangers because I could not find a costume for him to wear as the character. My son had sent an invite to the Power Rangers and it made his day to hear from them. He told everyone. Thank you for letting me share my stories with you and hope you have a blessed day. By the way I love the Snowman theme as they are one of my favorites as well.

Hi,

For both my 3 year old twins and my 15 month we did it simply with a few balloons, cake and family. After putting the baby(s) to bed my husband and I have some quiet time together and open a bottle of champagne. I feel like the first birthday is more about the parent's surviving it!
