Hi Mommy's - i hope this finds everyone well and enjoying the start of the summer. Gabby is turning 1 on July 15th. She still takes 4 bottles a day and she does great with a sippy cup for water drinking. Should I really be trying to have her drink her formula out of her sippy cup all the time now? Gabby is in the 90th percentile for height and weight so she's a phenomenal eater.

What can I do next?

I would go to sippy cup, unless you want to wait until July 15 and just switch when you switch to milk. I breastfed so I didn't have that issue, but I started my kids on sippy cups at about 6 months and that was it. Good luck!

If she will drink her formula out of a sippy cup that is great and if not that is great as well. my son who is now three refused a sippy cup and was just turning two before he would use one and he has no problems with his mouth or teeth. I was always stressing making sure he was where he should be but remember every baby and parent are different and I wouldn't sweat the small stuff as long as she still isn't on the bottle at 13 :)

I wouldn't worry about it til July. No milk before then. NO harm in her using the sippy for formula. My son's before bedtime "bottle" was the last to go........most likely it was a comfort issue.

D., Try transitioning her to whole milk when it gets closer to her first b-day. We did with my son. He too is an awesome eater. He turned one in October and that's what we did. The I started making those milk bottles h2o. And at that point he didn't want it. By the time he was 15 mo he was on whole milk and no bottles. Good luck! We also had a move in there and a new baby born in that time frame.

I have a two year old son, and when he was that age I just offered him water in the sippy cup. When he turned one, I offered whole milk in the sippy cup as well. It was easier to transition him to milk by offering it in a cup. I never put formula in a sippy cup, because I didn't want to confuse him. I would just say, stick to water in the cup until you wean her off of the formula.

You shouldn't try to wean her off of the formula until she turns 1 year old. Her tummy is not mature enough for cow's milk until she turns 1. If offered prior to 1, she could develop an allergy to milk. When she turns one, you can wean her off of the formula by replacing some of the formula in each bottle/sippy cup with whole milk. Slowly increase the amount of milk and decrease the amount formula until she is solely on milk. Do not worry about the # of times she is drinking the formula.

Now would be a good time to wean her off the bottle. Offer her the formula in a sippy cup. If she does well with formula in her sippy cups, continue to give her the formula in the sippy cups. Eventually, she will be good with all her formula in the sippy cups and then you can get rid of the bottles.

hi D.,
happy birthday to Gabby.
she is entering 'toddlerhood' ...walking out of infancy ...I know ; bitter/sweet.
compamise .
if she gets 32 oz. a day . divide it up any ' comfortable' way you can . the last thing you want to do is cause food trauma !
ex:
morning feeding =
4 oz. in bottle , than sit down in high chair for a
banana and 4 oz. sippie cup .[ you can add formula to cheerios too]
lunch =
again , 4 0z.bottle , than sit down at table for
some peas, carrots, applesauce, toast and a 4 0z sippie cup
and so on ... keep trac of 32 oz.
I am sure for 6 more months she will want a night time bottle .. than wean by age 2 year .
try not to give her a bottle when out and about ... take a sippie, a straw bottle , all kinds of cool stuff now ... something different [ keep a clean empty bottle hidden in your purse just in case] make it fun and say ,'yeah and clap'
babies are the coolest ...
however , mommy you have 1 full year to finish the weaning and to begin the potty training !
so; go slow and enjoy infancy .
a grammy

I saw in your other post that Gabby is starting her transition to the toddler room at her daycare. I know in many daycares, the kids MUST use sippy cups and not bottles, so I'd start the change over as soon as you can.

i started putting my daughters formula in a bottle at 10 months, she had no problems with it, the closer they get to one the better cahnce you have of them getting attached to things and making it harder to take it away. my daughter doesnt seem to get attached to anything tho. If yours does you may want to start trying some sippys of formula to get her used to her bottle less.
