What is the Old Testament story about the woman who was, essentially, married to a pompous idiot who told an army that he wouldn't feed them or let them on his land? His wife saved the day by going out with food and begging the leader for forgiveness. Yes, I know I've gotten the details wrong - it's just the general gist. Thanks!

It is the story of David(leader of the army) and Abigail who was married to Nabal who was incredibly wealthy but also suspicious and definitely pompous! 1st Samuel 25!

She saved the lives of many people by taking food and supplies and humbeling herself before the leader of her husband's enemies. As a result, her husband dropped dead and she became a widow. The leader she humbled herself before, sent for her and she became his wife. As for names....look them up in Bible on line.

Yes, its Abigail and David before he became King. If you want to read more, Jill Eileen Smith has a series of the wives of King David and the book for Abigail is very very romantic....kind of Francine Rivers-esque!

David was the leader who asked for food for his 600 men; Nabal was the churlish lout - the rich, arrogant sheepman who not only would not give the hospitality he could well afford, but who also cursed David and his men. Abigail, Nabal's wife, saved the day.

David, who was hiding out from the murderous King Saul, had helped protect Nabal's herds and shepherds in the past, but Nabal treated him as a panhandler and a crook. David was ready to go to battle to take revenge over this mistreatment.

Abigail, recognizing that David was God's choice to be King (God must have told her because she couldn't have known otherwise, but that's another story) took matters in her own hands, brought a large quantity of food for David's men, humbled herself, asked forgiveness in the matter (explaining that her husband was like that with everybody and she only wished she had known about this situation sooner), and effectively prevented David from doing something in vengeance that could have definitely worked against him later when he was King of Israel. David recognized her courage and wisdom.

Shortly after, Nabal, hearing the story, realized Abigail had saved him from certain death. There isn't much detail, but "his heart turned to stone" and he died, so he got what he deserved. When David heard about Nabal's death, he sent for Abigail and she became his second wife.

You'll find it in the first Book of Samuel, chapter 25.

So far, I can only think of Jezebel cutting off the prophets and Obadiah hiding them and feeding them...but that's the exact opposite of what you are asking. I'll keep looking, and update if I find it. I've really tried, though, and nothing is coming to mind.
