hiya mamas! i am a mother of a 10 yr old & 4 month old. i am wondering what your thoughts are on taking the baby to a 4th of july fireworks show? i'm a little hesitant due to the noise & not sure if the HUGE lights in the sky will frighten her. (i once took my dog who had NO PROBLEMS with loud noises, but she bolted from me when she saw the fireworks that looked like they were coming AT us from out of the sky!). any input is appreciated - thx!

What can I do next?

It depends on the baby, some are more sensetive than others. If you have the baby covered, cover her ears a bit, It should be ok.

The dog probably wasn't bolding from the lights, but the high pitched noise that we can't hear. Fireworks scare most dogs that way.

I think that it really depends on your daughter. My older son was really sensitive to loud noises and hated them; my younger son had no troubles with them. Different children have really different personalities, and while you're familiar with your daughter, 4 months may be a little soon to know.

If you think she'll be okay, maybe you can have another adult there to stay with the 10 year old, so that you can whisk the 4 month old away if it bothers her. But don't get yourself stuck there -- the 10 year old will really hate it if you have to get everyone out of there because it bothers the baby.

Good luck.

You will never know until you try. My son saw fireworks when he was about 4 months old too and he absolutely loved them. We still take him to see fireworks at Angel Stadium and at Disneyland and he thinks they're so cool. Maybe you could test it out by taking her to the disneyland fireworks(if you live close to there). they go off every night at 9:30. I know it's a little late but at least you can know how she'll react.

I think it will depend on whether the fireworks will be very close or more far away. Are you going to watch the show on the bay from Harbor Island or from the seats at Petco park (for example). I would say that the first scenario would be okay but the latter could possibly cause problems, what kind I don't know. You couls also get some earplugs (the kind you can mold to fit her ears). I like the other suggestion to have a back up helper in case you need to leave.

I agree with this depending on your baby. My family has a place of business very near where we do fireworks here in Carson, it is tradition that we all head there and have a BBQ and games while we wait for the show (its a large lot that is gated in) My first daughter was born on July 1, three days later I had her down at the office for the show, she slept thru it :), my second child was born on July 3, hours after being released we had him out for the show. But again this is ONLY famliy, its clean, and we are gated in from anything else. My third child was a bit older for his first Fourth of July, 10 months old and he HATED it!! Baby #3 cried the entire time, I even had to take him inside but still he was not happy. The two older kids have love fourth of july literally since day one, the last baby is still not too sure of and this is going to be his third run at it. Good luck at what ever you choose, and happy holiday to you and yours.
