Use Advantage or Revolution. I don't know how we ever lived without them. They're expensive but worth it.

I have tried borax, and yes it does work wonders.. i even put it thru the baseboards in my cupboards when I bought my new house- this works awesome for roaches too!! Yes, and the dog meds are also a start- prevention is the key. Keep up the good work and soon you will be flea free. Take care..

Yikes!

When our cats had fleas a couple of years ago, the vet told us to put one of those nasty chemical flea colors INSIDE THE VACCUM canister then vacume everything (carpets, couches beds etc) but it's important to have the flea poison in the vaccum so they don't get back out of the vac.

Also, just thinking about it like lice, you should probably spray all the dog toys and the dogs bed with the flea spray then bag them in plastic for several days to make sure everything is dead (or toss them and get new).

Sorry you are dealing with this.

Fleas are bad this year. I've heard it is because of the weather. I've lived in my house for 7+ years and had stopped using Advantage on my dogs as I didn't need to. This summer I had to start again. Ugh! This stuff is expensive and it is a chemical but is so affective I weighed the misery of fleas to this quick fix. You squirt the recommended dosage on the dog between the shoulder blades. I always try to do it in the evening as you are not supposed to touch the dog for a period of time afterwards. I used it and didn't have to spray the yard or bomb the house. I did catch the fleas early though. It also seems the family isn't exposed to as much chemicals but I may be wrong. Just an idea for you if it gets really bad....

I agree with the other responses you have received but I do want to mention that peak flea season is September and October. After that the cold weather takes care of most of them. You still need to treat the pets year-round, though, because the can still have fleas throughout the winter and you end up with problems next year. God Bless and Good Luck -I know you will get a handle on this! V.

Hi there,
I had that happen to me once, the fleas were manifesting in my carpet and hatching eggs, when I put my hand down on the carpet, about 100 fleas would jump up... It was disgusting... someone told me to put Boroxo or Boraxo all over my carpet and let it sit for a day... It is a powdered laundry detergent in a box you can get it almost anywhere... then vacume it up... that kills em! I promise...It totally worked and I even sugested it to a friend of mine and it worked for her too... Its non toxic but messy for a day while it sits...
Good luck!

Fleas lay eggs underneath your furniture. Vibrations like vaccuuming trigger hatching. So keep treating your dog with a good quality flea Rx like frontline. Vaccuum underneath furniture daily and it will get better. There are flea meds that make the fleas sterile as well. Ask your vet about which one to use.

Hello,
Try the collars or powder on the dogs, & lice bedding spray, less odor. I have dogs too, keep the dogs off the furniture, the cushion covers are washable. I dont' know what else to tell you.Good luck, G.

Sounds like you have gotten some great advise. I would use the Borox as suggested and empty your vacume bag outside in the trash. Most of all your dog needs to be on Advantage or a similar product. Advantage works like birth control. The fleas will stop multiplying in your yard. This will keep them off your dog and out of your house. Good Luck with your flea market...
