Hi Moms: Any recommendations on how to remove an AWFUL smell from garbage disposal. Tried lemon but to no avail! Thanks in advance for your help on this one!
Try lemon juice, ice and salt. Not only will it help the smell but it will sharpen the blades making sure every think get ground up and isn't sitting in the disposal.
I use 1-2 whole lemons (peel and all) and just quarter them before I drop them in.
Add some ice, lemon peels and baking soda and run with warm water...
Used coffee grounds works really well for us. And it's less messy than trying to dump them in the trash.
Make sure that the underside of the rubber splash guard is clean (mine will sometimes get a peanut butter like substance) Then dump automatic dish detergent into the disposal as it is running.
We get this problem every few months. The only thing that has worked for us is getting the actual garbage disposal cleanser packs - I have a hard time finding them sometimes, but Walmart has them by the dish detergent. Just follow the instructions on the package, works great! I have to do it once every 3-4 months.

I have used other fruit in the past. peaches, oranges, strawberries...or you could try those lemon balls that fry's sell for that purpose. good luck
