Hello,
I need some advise on an OB. I delivered my first baby at a different hospital, and had a terrible experience. I am now looking to deliver at Mills Peninsula, but now I need an OB recomendation. I prefer a female dr, but I guess I could be open to a male dr as I will only be seeing this dr for the birth of this baby, and then going back to my normal OB (but she doesnt deliver at Mills). I need a dr that really cares about pain management, and who will allow the epidural BEFORE 4 centimeters. I also would like a kind, caring as well as friendly dr. Your advice is greatly appreciated =)

What can I do next?

Hi B.:

I had the unforgettable delivery experience at Mills Peninsula. I love my OB GYN doctor who delivered my twins there. Her name is Beatrice Burke. Her office is at 50 So San Mateo Drive, Ste 420, San Mateo, CA 94404. She is very nice and caring. You can address to her your specific needs.

By the way, I love ALL the nurses at Mills as well. I want to go back to visit them and bring them flowers...

Good luck!

I went to Peninsula Women's Health in San Mateo...there is a wonderful midwife in their office. Her name is Jan Blanchard. She delivered my second child and it was a great experience. She spent lots of time and was very concerned with pain management. My first child was delivered by a Dr. in the office and it was a good experience but I really felt that Jan was extremely caring and knowledgeable and was willing to spend whatever time I needed to make sure that I was relaxed (as much as possible) and comfortable.
Good Luck, A.

I see Dr. Claire Serrato and love her. In fact, over the years I've seen other doctors in the office and think they are all great. It's all female office.

I have the most wonderful OB/GYN at Mill-Pen. Her name is Jacqueline Fletcher and if she's taking new patients, you will be thrilled. She's very kind and caring and stays on top of EVERYTHING. She delivered my twins in 2003 and my 3rd son in 2006. I had c-sections with both, so I don't know about her feelings on when the epidural is given, but I do know that she is very open to the concerns/desires of her patients. If you bring something up to her, she will listen and make sure it happens.

I too recommend Women's Peninsula Health. My OB is Dr. Lisa Dyer who is excellant, however she was not the Dr. to deliver my children. The dr. on call will assist in your child birth. Dr. Fletcher delivered my first child and Dr. Andrew Jurow delivered my second. Both were great. I have seen a few others in the office and recommend Dr. Dupont as well. (female).
I sae that you had a recommendation for Jan Blanchard who was a mid wife with this group. FYI...Jan is no longer in the office. They do not offer mid wives any longer. Good Luck in your search. Mills is a wonderful hospital for delivery. The staff is incredible.

You have already had a recommendation for Dr. Jacqueline Fletcher, who is also my OB. She is totally awesome, with a warm and caring manner. I have never been so happy with another doctor, of any field. I also happen to have an MD (in a different area of medicine) -- I found her knowledge to be superb. She delivered my first child (she happened to be on call at Mills-Peninsula that night), and I switched doctors to her when I became pregnant with my second because I had such a great experience with her.

Just to give you a heads up, though. If you go into labor, you will likely get the OB who happens to be on call for Mills-Peninsula, not the OB you've been seeing, unless you're lucky. You should certainly discuss the situation with whichever doctors you interview. Good luck!

I'll "third" Dr. Jacqueline Fletcher. I haven't delivered with her yet but will in August. I switched to her from another OB that I wasn't satisfied with. Dr. Fletcher is very thorough and patiently answers all my questions. The other doctors in her office are supposed to be fabulous as well. Dr. Fletcher's office is pretty much across the street from Mills Peninsula, if that helps. Good luck!
