Nuva Ring Question

I am considering using the Nuva Ring instead of orthotricyclin. I get sun poisoning after being out in the sun only 15 minutes with the orthotricyclin. I do fine in the sun if I am on no birth control. My husband is willing to use condoms but I would like to try something that will work for me. My OBGYN says this is a lower dose and may work for me. Anyone else ever experience this and did the ring work for you?

What can I do next?

I used the Nueva Ring, however I didn't care for it. I shouldn't have been on it in the first place. I have a tendency to get blood clots and my Dr. forgot about that and I forgot to remind her. My periods were lighter, however I did have a side effect, I got big brown spots all over my face. It was on my forehead and cheeks and made me look really bad. I had to see a Dermatologist and had to get medicine for the brown spots. I know quite a few of the birth control medicines cause this side effect. I seemed to have more of it while using the Nueva Ring. I take baby aspirin for the prevention of any blood clots.
I'm now on Mirena and I really Mirena better than the Nueva Ring. I don't have to take it out, the Dr. inserts it and then the Dr. will take it out. It is simpler, I dont' have to keep track of when to put it in or when to take it out. I barely have a period now. Sometimes I get crampy with a backache or stomach cramps a day or two and that's it. I use to get horrible back aches and headaches with the Nueva ring. You could always try it and see how it affects you and how you like it, you can always switch to something else if it doesn't work out.

I have used it for 3 years and have LOVED it!! I haven't had any issues, only that sometimes it moves around during sex... and in that case, I just take it out! (it can be taken out for 3 hours without risk) I gone off it when we decided to get pregnant, and jumped back on it after I had my son... and was still able to take it while nursing. I was horribly sick on pill birth control, and had some of the same side effects as you have described. So, I was so excited to try something new!! I hope you love it too!

Hi G., I used it for several months, my periods never looked right, they were very clotty I thought I was going to have a stroke or something. I also had alot of discharge, it was ver annoying. But on the other hand if you put it in correctly, it won't fall out and you don't have to worry about it for three weeks. I ended up getting off of it and taking the progestrone only pill because of migraines and the headache meds. The ring is definitely worth a shot.

I am in my 4th month of using the Nuvaring after many years on the pill. LOVE IT. No spotting at all, and no side effects that I can tell. Most OBs will give you several samples of it.

Hi G., Have you ever heard of Mirena? I really researched it after I was on a panel for them. I don't qualify for it because I have fibroids, but if I didn't have them, I'd use it! It's inserted by your doctor and is an IUC not an IUD, it is estrogen free and you can keep it in for up to 5 years. If you decide to have it removed to get pregnant again you can generally get pregnant immediately. It is somewhat pricey initially but averages out to a typical pill cost. The panel I was on consisted of women who hadn't really heard of it either and most were quite interested in getting more information after we completed the panel so it may be something you want to check out.

I have tried tons of BCP, and they've all given me severe migrains, weight gain, etc. I went on the nuva ring three months ago and LOVED it- no side effects!! However, the second month i spotted, my OB said to wait another month. This month, i spotted again. She told me since the spotting is due to low hormones, i could become pregnant, she put me on another BCP. I'm really upset. The Nuva ring was wonderful, easy, and i got no side effects from it!
I highly recommend it!!
Good luck!
