Hi there, I haven't nursed this long and I am allergic to cats, I sound like a guy now as my voice is in such bad shape.
I am looking for natural as well as medicines that are safe and that can help.
Claritin is not strong enough for me when I wasn't preg and doubt it will be again now.

I have tried Young Living Lavendar oil, vitamin c in case it is a cold as well and drinking tons of water, flushing out my nose

I do not have a cat we have friends with cats, sorry didn't mention that at first! :)

What can I do next?

I also have major seasonal allergies as well as pet allergies. My doctor has me on Loratadine daily and prescription Flonase, the combonation of the two work great, but it may take a couple days if you are already so miserable. Does not cause drowsiness and does not have anything unsafe for the baby. Consistency in taking the meds is key.

Keep cat out of bedroom.
Get a hepa air purifier
wash hand n face-as often as you can.

I would assume, finding a new loving home for the cat is not acceptable?

Put Allerpet on the cat and keep the cat out of the bedroom. Invest in an air cleaner.

Vacuum/steam the house. The best way to combat a cat allergy is at the source!

This is a great website on allergy meds for nursing moms. I tried to post it, but MP keeps cutting it off. Go to: www.infantrisk.com/ and then put allergy in the search box. It is a great article on available meds and their safety for nursing moms.

My allergist said the same thing as the above website: intranasal steroids like flonase act mostly locally, they don't really even get into the bloodstream of the mom, and therefore would pose no risk to the nursing baby. So I used flonase the entire time I was breastfeeding.

Some ideas (I didn't check to see how they/if they interact with breastfeeding) are:
eucalyptus
red clover
alfalfa
licorice root
apple cider vinegar
Dulcamaral (comes from Bitter sweet plant)
teas made of ginseng or borage (boost the immune system)
actual homeopathic remedies, like allium cepa, Euphrasia, Natrum muriaticum (can be found at Whole Foods or your local co-op, community pharmacy, or whoever sells naturopathic remedies.

Best bet would be to find a homeopathic practitioner who practices homeopathy who can help you by effectively finding what will work for YOU and your symptoms because every person is an individual; what works for one person might not be what will work for you.

Another suggestion would be to cut out drinking and eating cow/dairy products. They produce a lot of pflegm and coughing, etc. You might find some relief that way.

Good luck!

Have you tried rotating through the different allergy meds?

Claritin - Reactin - Zyrtec - etc.

I've heard marvelous things about Oil of Oregano, but think that is more for pollen allergies, not pets.

The safest for you long term is to avoid the cats. Why are you exposed so much that your voice is hoarse?

Try adding powdered brewers yeast to the cats food. My ex was allergic and that stopped his attacks. It makes the cats shed less and changes the composition of the dander so it's not as reactive for people wtih allergies.

Have you tried zyrtec. That was prescribed to me by my midwives when pregger and nursing because my allergies were insane!

That and the saline rinses were all that worked for me.

If you have a decent milk supply try Zyrtec. When my little one was an newborn to about 9 months I used Allegra. Then I switched back to Zyrtec.

Yes, if you use a food-based supplement that helps to detox naturally (no heavy-duty cleanse) and which supports the immune system, it works. Your immune system is reacting to something that is not harmful, thinking it IS harmful, so you get this intense reactions. All my allergy symptoms are gone and I have a zillion colleagues who have used these products safely while pregnant and nursing. The chief scientific officer was originally on the team that developed infant formula so there's a strong knowledge of safety. No product is an overnight fix - you need to give it 2-3 months but if you want to talk about it more, let me know. You can buy on line but need a referral so you have a contact for questions and customer support.
