okay, i am finally expecting baby # 2 in april and need advice on nusery ideas. i have a one year old son that will be sharing his VERY TINY room with the baby. i need ideas to combine boy toddler and girl infant that looks good in one room, yet give them each their own space. i mean this room is tiny. barely fits a dresser, toddler bed and crib. and if i have another boy i want to accent toddler boy with infant boy. please any advice one how to get a cute nursery with little money is greatly appreciated. pics are even better:) thank you!

Decorate with something neutral. I'd go more with just colors than a theme because as soon as the kids get old enough to decide if they're into sports/princesses/cars/etc, then you'd have to redo the room again. With neutral colors you can just go with accents when they do decide on a theme. The Babylicious line at Target have some really cute ideas. Look online for a lot of things...craigslist.org sometimes has some really cute things that people in Omaha are selling. Congrats on baby #2! April's a good month-my son was just born April 1st!

Hello! We are in exactly the same situation as you.. We have a 4 year old son and a one year old girl. The room is decorated with pale green walls and the theme is panda bears, with bamboo and nice wood accents. It works well and is gender neutral.

A neutral theme like animals, Winnie the Pooh or Stars/Moons would work for both sex. What about a nautical theme? Or instead of thinking along the lines of themes, why not colors? If you go with colors then anything goes! I always found out the sex of my children as soon as possible. It helped in setting up the room, planning for outfits/blankets, etc as well as budgeting for items. I could buy the stuff over several months rather than running out after the baby was born. The biggest surprise had already happened when i found out I was pregnant. Even though I ended up with three boys I still was able to know that I could re-use items and clearance shop. I bought off clearance racks at the end of summer while I was pregnant for next summer when the baby would be here!
ANother idea is a jungle theme, I know a lot of girls that love monkeys! Or Frogs! I've seen crib bedding that is frogs and with the toddler you could add snails, mud, pails, shovels, etc.

Even though we new we were having a girl, we went sort of neutral sex-wise, with primary colors. The walls are a medium-intensity yellow (called "Lucy" at True Value Hardware) and we found a border at Lowe's with blue, red, yellow and a soft green flower design. We used it at chair-rail height, since the room has 11-foot ceilings.

When baby #2 came along, and was a boy, the primary colors kind of outshone the fact that there were flowers on the wall.

Both kids love the movie "Cars" and Lowe's has these things called Wall Pops - think removeable wallpaper art - and out went the flower border for a stripe, with the residents of Radiator Springs smiling from the wall now!

Just recently, my daughter, who is 5, decided she wants her own room, so we need to decorate the guest room for her, and we'll go back for more Wall Pops. They have dots and boxes and all kinds of fun things. Meanwhile son, age 3, is still enjoying his Cars. I think Wall Pops rock!

Good luck and don't stress over the decor. Have fun, and remember, a baby of one sex isn't going to be offended if his/her room isn't "right." Just wait until later - I've come home from work to find my daughter has dressed my son in her Halloween witch's skirt and pink ballet shoes! I just shake my head...
(Lately he has drawn the line at wearing her tutu from last year's recital.)

I didn't know what we were having before either of my children were born, so the nursery was very neutral. I now have one boy and one girl and the theme worked great for both of the kids. We decorated our nursery with light yellow walls and baby barn animals. Once the baby arrived, we just accented the room with more feminine colors for the girl, and more masculine colors for the boy. The bedding, curtains, lamp, and pictures for the wall have many different colors in them so we were able to make the style work for both a boy or a girl. You could also get away with buying one bedding set and sharing it between both the crib and a toddler bed. You could use the bedspread and sheet for the toddler bed, and the bumper with an additional crib sheet for the crib. That way both beds would match the theme without buying two different bedding sets! Make sense? My other theme suggestion would be to decorate with the popular brown color that is "in style" right now. You could decorate with brown and blue or green for a boy, and brown and pink for a girl. You could also do stripes or polka dots. Just a couple of suggestions! I will let you know if I have time to think of any more. I can't wait to find out what you decide. Happy decorating!

you could paint the room in a neutral color, such as light green, then do a neutral wallpaper border through the middle - like say something with teddy bears on it. Then, for each child, get those hanging letters that spell out their name, and put each on a different wall. That wall can be the individual part - you could put pictures of that child, their footprints from the hospital, some piece of decoration of something they like (ie elmo, dinosaurs, fish - these are the favorites in our home). Remember, all this decorating is for YOU - the baby or even the toddler doesn't care at all what you put in the room, just that you are THERE to give hugs and kisses!

If you go to walmart and look at the crib sets, look up the barn house set on page 4. My toddler son who is 2 loves this, we just decorated in this for a new baby brother. The little one who is 3 weeks loves to look around his room. my toddler likes to sign EIEIO to his brother. We painted the walls in a green similar to that of the photo, we then ordered wall border from babies r'us in the countryside. They are made by the same company for both vendors, so they are very similar in pattern. It looks adorable! Good luck!
