Hello Moms,

I recently asked for recommendations for a general practioner in the 1431 and Parmer Lane area. You were all so kind with sending your feedback and it is greatly appreciated. I have wondered how I am going to decide on one with all the great recommendations. I am wondering now, of those who did respond to me, do you know if your doctor would work with me on not being able to sleep and what their feelings are on prescrips to help with that. I have tried over the counter meds and herbal sleep tablets to see if it would alleviate the problem and it is just not happening. I am only getting about 2 1/2 to 3 hours of sleep a night and it is really starting to wear me down.

Thank you all again for your earlier feedback and for the forthcoming,
D. C.

If I were you I would ask for Ambien. It is a really good sleep prescription. My mom has been taking for years. Dr. Navarro at Austin Regional Clinic is really understanding and would have no problem writing scripts. He is so caring. Dr. Mauldin is pretty good about writing scripts to. I would not take anything else but Ambien it works!!! No bad side effects and no morning sleep hangovers ( meaning you will not be half asleep when its time to wake up). Hope this helps, B.

I also have sleep issues that have gotten worse since I now have to take thyroid medicine. Dr. Veronica Spellings is my doctor and she was very quick to want to help me with my sleep issues. She really is a wonderful doctor who wont rush you at your appointment and will really listen to your concerns. Well good luck, I hope you find a doctor you love and start sleeping again soon. Here is Dr. Spellings number if you want it.

Are you going through menopause? Is your thyroid off? These would all mess up your sleep cycle. Findout if it is a medical problem then deal with it that way. Poor thing!

I think most doctors will work with you on insomnia issues. Most will want to start you on something like Amitriptyline and then move you to other name brand type meds if those don't work. You might also get referred to another doctor to check for any physical issues that might be causing the insomnia.

I have dealt with insomnia in the past and I didn't care for the drugs. They left me feeling hung-over in the morning and Lunesta had a nasty side effect that left a taste in my mouth all day. It tasted like I had be sucking on quarters. Nothing would make it go away either.

Recently, I started taking Zyrtec D for some allergy issues and that stuff is like a horse tranquilizer to me. I only take it at night now. I still feel a tad groggy in the morning, but it wears off quickly. The effect of making me sleepy seems to wear off after a few nights, but after a week of not taking it, it makes me sleepy again when I do. It probably isn't the best tactic, but it is over the counter and if you can get even a few good nights in, you'll feel much better.

I didn't respond to last question but if you have not tried to take Melatonin you should try it. My husband was not sleeping well he would wake up many times a night and just never get a good night sleep. He started taking that Melatonin and he sleeps really well when he takes it. And you can get it over the counter.

Top Ten Things You Can Do to Detoxify Your Body
Preventing Chronic Disease the Natural Way
1. Get more sleep.
Your liver the organ in charge filtration and detoxification of you body works mainly at night. The detoxification process has two Phases.
During Phase 1 your liver converts the fat-soluble toxins in your body into water-soluble molecules (free radicals), many times more toxic that the original molecules they came from.
During Phase 2 the liver neutralizes the new (free radicals) toxic water soluble molecules, and excrete them through the bile and the urine. All this happens through the night and it takes between 5 to 7 hours to complete. Lack of sleep cuts Phase 2 short and you end up with more toxic molecules than you started with.

2. Avoid late night meals.
The detoxification process of the liver does not get started until your digestion has stopped. If you eat late, the last meal of the day wonʼt be fully digested until after you go sleep, your Phase1 wonʼt start until you are finished digesting, and Phase 2 is again going to be cut short.

3. Avoid heavy protein meals at night.
Because we are trying to control our weight many of us are eating heavy protein meals at night. But the protein from beef, fish, or chicken is digested a lot slower that carbohydrates. Again, if you slow your digestion because of a protein meal, you are going to short change your liver detoxification Phase2.

4. Vitamins and Vegetables promote detoxification.
Phase 1 are aided by vitamins E, C and the B group, glutathione and caretenoids. Phase 2 is enhanced by the amino acids glutamine, glycine, taurine, cysteine and organic sulphur compounds found in such foods as eggs, garlic, onions and broccoli, and cauliflower.

5. Minimise alcohol consumption.
That's a maximum of one drink per day. If you have impaired liver functioning, avoid alcohol altogether.

6. Reduce exposure to pollutants, pesticides and herbicides. Many of the common herbicides depress the function of cytochrome P450 and other enzymes crucial for detoxification.

7. Consume a largely plant based diet and use organic fruit and vegetables specially at night. Reduce consumption of refined carbohydrates, deep fried and processed foods.

8. Avoid coffee. Green tea is a better choice, and unlike coffee, it promotes liver function.

9. Minimise prescription drug use and avoid recreational drugs.

10. Take a Liver protecting supplement.
I have chosen to use Mangosteen <http://sanantonio.discovermangosteen.com/go/index/Aac> for myself and my family, because it protects the liver, has the strongest antioxidant capacity I know of, and also has anti-inflammatory properties <http://hubpages.com/hub/Mangosteen-is-ancient-news> which make it very unique.
Other supplements are milk thistle, silymarin (an extract of milk thistle), goji, schizandra, rhodiola rosea, DHEA and N-acetyl-cysteine.

Detoxification is only one of the liver functions, but it is critical for you health, and it also supports the rest of the liver functions, which are:
* cholesterol control
* blood sugar control
* hormone and enzyme production
* immunity
* metabolism of food
* protein synthesis
* production of anabolic repair chemicals.
The proper function of the liver contributes to the natural release of Growth Hormone, which has been found to be an anti-aging agent.

Remember, Invest in your health today, to enjoy a disease free tomorrow.
