Not like Clockwork This Time

This is so weird. We decided to start trying for baby #3 as soon as my last period was over. I'm usually quite regular, so I remembered my period from December and figured my January one should be Jan 16. It showed up on the 6th. I figured I was lucky I didn't have to wait so long, and did the math for Jan 6th being the start of my last period. It said to try TTC on Jan 17th. But my period was sooo long this time! It ended on the 16th.
I'm so confused. This hasn't happened before. I don't know if my dates are all wrong! I don't know what days are our best chance! We successfully planned our two boys, so I feel like I would know what I was doing if it weren't so screwy this time.
Does anyone know what I should be calculating from?

So What Happened?

Wow, that's quite the popular book!
Like I said, we've never had any problems (thank goodness!) planning our children. Our first child happened on our first try, and our second took two months. I don't think I'll run out and buy the book just yet, since we're on day 2 of trying :)
And thank you, I don't feel so worried now about the early, long period anymore. If there was any word to describe last month, it would be stressful! We bought a house, moved in, and had Christmas all in one month! Oh, and I was also participating in a contest that won me a job. So yeah, busy and happy, but definitely a lot going on!

And I'm not too worried about taking charge of my fertility quite yet, because we've literally been "trying" since Saturday. It's too early to be giving up hope, I think!

Don't over look the obvious. Have sex every day. It worked for me. I got pregnant each time in the very first month. We had sex even if we were tired (well, even if I was tired. My husband was always ready!) We now have two beautiful boys two years apart, just like we planned. Good luck and enjoy it!

Were ypu on any kind of hormonal BC recently? That can mess thing's up. Also, Holiday stress can make thing's irregular too! Sometimes God and mother nature aren't always cooperative, I am very impressed you were able to actually specifically paln the other two. I know with my 3rd it took about three or four months as opposes to first try on the other two.

I recommend reading the book "Taking Charge of Your Fertility" It was so incredibly helpful to me when I had irregular periods and trying to get pregnant. Good luck!

I'd say your best chance right now is to stick with Jan 17. It is possible that you did not ovulate last month. The only way to be sure is to track your fertility with basal temperatures (temperature right upon waking)and cervical fluid. Other than Taking Charge of Your Fertility, all you need is a thermometer that is accurate to .1 degree. To get that I had to buy a thermometer that was advertised to be used to track fertility.

Start Today!!!!!!!!!!! Tomorrow is the 14th day of your cycle so you should be ovulating w/in the next couple of days if you haven't already. No matter how long your periods are you ovulate around the 14th day of your cycle. Good luck.

Count your cycle from the first day of your period, until the first day of your next period. That will make it easiest to determine how long your cycles are. My cycles changed drastically after my second child. Whereas before, both on AND off the pill, I was 28 days like clockwork. Then all of a sudden, inexplicably, I was suddenly having cycles that ranged from 25-34 days. Now that I have recorded them, I can tell that my cycles go in waves...25 the first month, then they gradually increase, then for a couple of months it was stay at 28 days, then it will increase to about 32 days, then it will start again at 25 days. It's totally weird, but our bodies and our cycles change as get older (I am only 29), and of course, as we have children. Try recording your cycles, both now, and after you've started again once you've had your next child.

I know this it totally weird, but good luck to you!

Go right now and buy the book Taking Charge of Your Fertility!!!

Our bodies are not like clockwork, and things change. The most accurate way to know your fertile, is to be aware of, and in tune with the signals your body is giving you. The most accurate indicator of ovulation is not a day count, but the consistancy of your cervical mucus. No one can tell that but you.

Taking Charge of Your Fertility should be required reading for everyone with a vagina! There is so much we don't know - and most ob/gyns - can't tell you!

Blessings,

M.

Get Taking Charge of your Fertility. I concieved the first month of trying...on day 25 of my cycle! Had I only been "trying" around the 14th or so of the month, I would still not be pregnant. I did not do the temp. taking but knew when I was ovulating solely based on cervical fluid. Good luck!

There is a great book called "Taking Charge of Your Fertility" that teaches you how to read the signs of ovulation.
One thing you can do is just observe your cervical fluid. We have different types of discharge as our bodies are getting ready to ovulate. When you have an egg white like discharge you are either getting ready to ovulate or are ovulating.
I'm sure you can find more in depth info online if you are interested, or you can get the book. It is a great book to learn about your reproductive system, which is really quit interesting, and how to get pregnant and how to not get pregnant.
Good luck,

I would also suggest Taking Charge of Your Fertility. While it is ok for most people to estimate that they ovulate on day 14, it is very far from the truth that everyone does. You need to know when you are ovulating, not just when day 14 of your cycle is. A couple of quick tricks that will take you less than a minute a day will tell you that and it makes the whole process worlds easier!

taking charge of your fertility is an AWESOME book. . .even if you think you know you're timing and it was easy enough with prior pregnancies, hormones get whacky with kids. . . so this book will help you ID other signs your body is giving you to let you know when it's your best time to try.

One thing you need to know is if you are ovulating. If you take you basel temperature every morning before you get up. Chart your temperatures each morning. You will see a pattern. It should read 97.4 (every women is different) and then at ovulation, is goes down to 97.0 then it goes up to 98.0 for the rest of the month. When you chart your own temps, you will understand better. Also, when your temperature drops, you shoul be getting a stretchy mucas discharge, meaning you are fertile.

I might be overcautious, but if it happens for more that one more month, I would go to a doctor. A sudden change in your cycle could indicate something else going on. It's probably nothing, but I'm kinda paranoid about stuff and would rather be safe than sorry.
