ok so every since i was in high school i've dealt with facial hair, the hairs on my upper lip aren't bad but the hairs on my chin.............OMG!!!!! i can pluck them in the morning and by eveing i could pluck them again, THE EXACT SAME HAIRS.and they are starting to grow on my neck and even found one on my cheek not too long ago. i make my chin red at work to get them cause they are DARK and i feel embarrassed. i nair it, and within a few hours i can feel "stubbles' because it only get's skin deep.

my mom suggested i go to a dermatologist and look into lazer treatment. but i can't afford that right now...anyone got any over teh counter suggestions that ACTUALLY WORK!!!! getting tired of having to pluck my "beard" and tired of feeling like i'm naturally turning into a MAN!

i would shave but i don't want it getting worse than it already is...that happened to my upper lip

i'm not on any meds or birth controls

You probably won't like this, but I shave my "moustache" (I have chin hairs I have to pluck too). I have a friend who does laser treatments and she actually told me that shaving was probably the gentlest at home "treatment" possible.

Alternately, there are schools that train aetheticians (sp). They might be able to help you out.

I would go to an endocrinologist. This sounds like it might be an overproduction of androgenyn hormones (like progesterone). They're commonly reffered to as "male hormones."

Do you have PCOS? your OB/GYN might even notice, as excess facial hair is a sign of that. Do you have any issues with acne? Sometimes these hormonal issues can have that secondary side effect, too.

I am genetically (due to my racial characteristics) very hairy and I use wax. My favorite right now is Sally Henson's cold wax strips. It doesn't hurt much at all. i have to wax my eyebrows a couple times a week, but it's SO quick and easy.

All the best.

I have heard and considered myself that you can get treatment through your gynecologist. It is a hormonal issue. Plucking them actually makes it worse. I have done some online research and found that a gynecologist can prescribe and cream to put on your face several times and day along with birth control if needed. The cream can cause problems in a pregnancy, so I understand they usually prescribe it along with a birth control.

I have also read that soy complex will thin the hairs back to the original baby type hairs. Aveno makes products that contains soy complex. I think I will try that first. I recently tried a facial hair removal cream and it removed every thing but the those coarse thick dark hairs that I was really wanting to get rid of. I did my research after that and found the most hair removers have very little effect on the coarse hairs. Don't shave or you will have a full beard. The reason it seems to be spreading is because every time you pluck a hair you are chancing also plucking a hair that is not course. Over time those hairs will also become coarse. Yes, I still pluck, but I try to be very careful and not pluck anything but the very coarse hairs. I am going to try Aveno first and if that doesn't help over a course of a few months, I am going to see my gynecologist and see what she can do for me.

Have you talked to your regular physician? It could be a hormone imbalance.

Is it possible that you have PCOS? PCOS can spur the growth of facial hair, a triangular pattern of hair on the abdomen below the navel, and hair on the inner thighs. Are your periods regular if when not on any hormonal birth control?

Even if you don't have PCOS, you could ask your obgyn about putting you on an oral contraceptive that has anti-androgenic properties. The hair growth you're describing could be due to higher levels of testosterone in your body, and anti-androgens will work to slow the hirsutism you're experiencing.

What kind of birth control are you using? I used to have the same problem but it was the hairs along my upper lip. I did electrolysis and waxing (riped skin off)... Turns out that it was a side effect of my birth control pills.

Keep a pair of tweezers at your desk! Don't use Nair! Not only is it too strong for sensitive facial skin (I used it on my upper lip once - NEVER again!), it doesn't get to the 'root'/follicle of the hair. If you get to the root, the time it takes to grow back is longer then a chemical treatment like Nair. Until you can afford laser treatment, I would just keep plucking away. I understand the frustration - lately I feel like I'm growing 'sideburns' - the hair at my hairline by my ears seems like it's creeping down! Shaving might stimulate more coarser hair growth.

Electrolysis is much cheaper than laser hair removal. And plucking hairs makes them stronger and darker, that's why they're growing so fast. Shave them until you can afford electrolysis. If you can afford a hair cut, it probably costs about the same.

I have this problem and its related to my PCOS. There are things your gyno can give you to help reduce the hair, but if you're like me, you'll still have some. I pluck -- even though its no good! -- because my skin is too sensitive for anything else. One thing I recommend to everyone is threading. Its something between a pluck and a wax and available at some salons. It was great and gave me the most baby smooth skin. For most people that use it, its the best option. I developed a rash, however, because of my sensitive skin. I even tried it again "just to be sure" because the hair removal results were so awesome. This is something I wish I could do all the time!!! The other ladies I know that do it have no problems with irritation.

I feel your pain! I have 2 patches on my chin, not all of my chin, but 2 small patches. My sister has them too, passed on from my mom. It's terrible and sooooo embarrassing! I pluck them almost everyday (mine are blond). I thought I might try waxing. Please let me know if you try anything that works!

I Feel All your pain ! I have the Same Exact Issues :-( no fun! i too have used the nair - which in turn left me w/ A lot more peach fuzz on my chin then I ever had and didn't work very long at keeping the long dark ones at bay... made more Dark ones come out !
I went to the dermatologist once about it (must have been 13 yrs ago) and she told me 'your probably the only one who notices it, dont worry about it' Really??!! i was upset and aggravated when i walked out of there! i cant afford the lazer treatment anytime soon either. I Pluck Every morning ! I would Never shave it in fear (and knowing how my hair grows) that it Literally would come in as a full beard ! Its so embarrassing and I'm SO self conscious about it. But I keep plucking away... I hope someone has some better options out there for you. It was just nice to see that I'm not alone in this hairy mess! GL

Since laser treatments and such are expensive-- I'd say try birth control pills for sure. If anything, it should slow the hair down by getting the female hormones. It may balance you out plus help with cramps and flow. Yay! As far as a remover goes- Sally Hansen has a cream that you paint on and leave for about 4 minutes then wipe off. I used it and it was gentle and took off all the hair. I even used it on my 79 yr. old Mom. No problems. Also, if you dont want to use the birth control pills- go to a good health food store and buy Emerita progesterone cream. Follow the directions on it. It may take awhile but will also balance hormones. Wish you the best!
