My mother in law bought my 9 year old a grim reaper costume for halloween (I'm thrilled...). It's what she wants to be, so whatever, I let her, but she can't wear it to school on Friday. She needs a non-scary costume for the school parade and for the carnival that night. I don't want to buy another costume just for school. Any ideas on something that I could do with stuff we probably already have? A hippie is the only thing that I can think of and today was hippie day (red ribbon week), so that would be twice in one week for her to wear it. Help!

Gypsy can be done eaisly... lots of scarves and beads, long skirt, epeasant style top... a little (or a lot) of make-up...

she can go as an 80's kid... easy to do doesn't require a new costume... just lots of hairspray and some accessories you can get super cheap at goodwill, or she may even have some or you may since the style is coming back a bit.

My 16 yr old had to go to school for MOLE day dressed up. (It's was a chemistry project) and all the kids dressed as their MOLE.
She was a "cougar mole".... leopard print skirt, shoes with leopard print, black shirt, headband with leopard ears and drew whiskars on her face. Cougars is the school mascot.
They also had bunny moles, cindermolla, etc.
FYI, the MOLE is some number in Chemistry and it was the annoversary of the MOLE number or something like that. FUN project for the highschoolers.
if you have a white t-shirt and white or tan pants. you can color black spots on them with marker or paint. Put some black spots on her face to make her into a dalmation puppy. Use black fabric or felt to make floppy dog ears attach them with barette or bobby pins.
What is her bff going to be? She might like coordinating with her.

Bat- all black clothes, use black trash bags or fabric to make wings that will attach between her sides and the bottoms of her arms with safety pins.
Just out of bed- Robe, Slippers, Curlers in hair (cut up tube of some sort...who has curlers these days :-) and if she can stand it some sort of face mask/night cream on her face.
Ghost: White sheet
Black Eyed Pea, Paint a black circle around her eye and put a large P on a plain shirt.
She could dress as her favorite pop-star...Selena Gomez, Demi Lavato, Hannah Montana. Just requires to dress fashionably and then maybe get a microphone from the dollar store.
She could dress as a clown, a princess (does she have a fancy dress), a farmer, an athlete of some kind.
a gypsy... flow - ey type of skirt.. pretty scarf around her head... big hoop earings... it's fun.... what about a wearing pj's to school... and a pacifier.. hair in pig tails.. and she can b a baby...
