Hi V.,
It's possible that your hormone levels are not high enough yet to register on a home test, though they are very good these days. A blood test, though, is still the gold standard. Another possibility is that you did not ovulate this month, which can throw off when you get your period considerably. I highly recommend the book "Taking Charge of Your Fertility." I did not have any fertility problems, but so many moms recommended it to me that I bought it. It gives a really amazing explanation of how our systems work (and made me ticked that, as a well-educated woman with top-notch health providers, I had never learned much of what this book contains -- my luteal [sp?] phase???). The book explains how to tell if you have ovulated (without buying any tests) and how to know if you have not, and why your period might then be late.
