No Mexico - Where to Go?

Hi Moms,

My husband and I usually travel to Mexico for a mini vaca this time of year. Since there's so much going on in Mexico and Americans are being advised to not visit some of the popular areas (Cancun & Cabo specifically), I'm wondering if anyone could suggest a "safe" area in Mexico or another destination.

We wouldn't do Jamaica or St Lucia (been there)...thinking about Barbados or Turks and Cacois(sp)? Anyone been there? Also I thought the Dominican Republic might be ok.

We usually stay at adults only places so we don't miss our kids, but we're up for any suggestions.

Thanks.

N.

I have not personally been, but Puerto Rico is a favorite of my brother and sister-in-law as well as my OB. It is America, so no passport needed.

We've done Dominican, and it was nice, but you can't really leave your resort and the food was awful. Puerto Vallarta was nice too. Our absolute favorite place is Aruba! Beautiful weather, great restaurants, nice and friendly people. We stayed at the Occidental All Inclusive, but you definitely dont need to do all inclusive there. Have fun wherever you go!

We go to Playa del Carmen about 60 miles south of Cancun every year & have never had a problem. The value & the beaches cant be beat.
Any warning I have seen does not include this area. Have I missed something? Let me know because we start planning for our June trip very soon.

My parents just got back from Ixtapa Mexico a couple weeks ago. They go almost every year and stay at the same hotel (Dorado Pacifico). They had a great time as usual.

Costa Rica is beautiful!!

Good luck & safe travels-

What about taking a cruise? You can see a few different places on one trip. Or, we stayed at Atlantis in the Bahamas. There are kids there, but if you go this time of year (and before spring break) you won't have many there. I wouldn't stay a week there though. We stayed 3 nights and that was just about enought time. We loved Aruba also. Beautiful. Happy planning.

My Aunt Dawn has a bed and breakfast in Yucatan, north of Cancun. www.angelesdemerida.com I don't think that's one of the very popular areas. However, if you wanted to avoid Mexico all together you could go to a resort in Texas maybe. http://www.chisosmountainslodge.com/ I haven't been here, but am looking into it. I need a vacation too. It's not too expensive either.

We had a great time in Aruba and in the U.S. Virgin Islands (St. Thomas and St. John).
