Get a new obgyn! It could be all kinds of things or it could be nothing, but to dismiss it out of hand is unacceptable.
I have not had a menstural cycle since January. I contacted my obgyn in April, he said not to worry about it. Could it be early menapause? I have had day and night sweats (power surges) for about a year now.

I started Perimemopause about 9 years ago...I am also 37 now...so I understand completely.
If you are worried about it, make an appointment...They can draw your blood and check your hormone levels for a certain diagnosis.
Blessings,
F.,
My Aunt, who had no children, ended her cycle in her early 30's with no complications later. I'm sure you're ok. If you get too worried, I would see another doctor just to confirm.
Good luck to you.
God bless,

Please don't be freaked out about this. I am 40 years old as of April. In January 2002, I suddenly had my periods go from "normal" to practically non-existant. I talked with my OBGyn (whom I've seen since I was about 18) and he said it could be elevated stress. When I explained I had just taken steps to alleviate stress from my life, he said then this could be me normal. You know what? He was right.
If I am stressed, my periods are heavier but still no where near what most would consider normal. I can go most periods with just using a thin pantyliner if anything at all. I am not saying this to brag (most women growl at me when they find this out) but to let you know that this is entirely possible and normal for your body.
If you are still overly concerned, then press your OBGyn about doing extra tests. Personally though, gender is irrelevant if you trust your OBGyn.
Track your stress levels and other potential external influences to see if there is a pattern and ask to have your hormone levels checked. I have been on a mild birth control for years and will continue to be since I am staying healthy and don't smoke (two things that can contribute to other issues). The levels of hormones in it are enough to keep me on a consistant level.
If you want to talk more, feel free to contact me directly.

Get a second opinion or go back and push hime to test you for it. Could be peri-menapause, or a thyroid, or any other thing. I had the same symptoms after my second child and asked my ob the same thing and she immediately tested for thyroid and, sure enough, that was the problem. No matter what, it's your body and there are ways to make you feel better.
You very well could be have early menopause - or maybe not. It was this same attitude of my male obgyn that made me look for a new obgyn - I found an all female practice dealing anything and everything female. I've been given options to consider that were once passed off as "oh, don't worry about that".
You may want to consider a 2nd opinion.
It sounds like symptoms of menapause. But, I would see another gyn. Even if you are perimenapausal, you should still see a doctor to have blood work done to be sure and get more information.
Fredrica, I just googled peri-menopause and found the Poise site which gives a good overview of peri-menopause. Your age puts you in the range for this event.....smile.

I dont know your situation, but I know that menopause has many other symptoms and you would know about it...no worries, my sister-in-law had her first baby at 41 and he was very healthy, if that is what you are wanting...pray about it and let God know what you want...he has a plan for everyone and he wants to please you when you please him....Good luck and I am praying for you
"could it be" early menopause...yes...especially with your other symptoms...However it ALSO could mean thyroid problems, excessive stress, or a myriad of other things.
If your OBGYN is giving you an answer you do not like, or not doing anything to help you determine the issue at hand, get a second opinion or change your OBGYN...
I would not worry about what it is until you have a diagnosis because you can cause yourself needless worry, fear and phantom symptoms if you stress on it too much.
Make an appointment and get yourself checked out..
Good Luck... ;-)
I had the same problem around 38, the doctor did not seem too worried about it. I went about a year with only 2 cycles. I had my cholesterol checked and it was very high, I got on medication for that and I lost some weight also. The doctor never really said if the two things were related, but my cycle has gotten back to regular. Good luck, keep contacting your doctor if you feel you are not getting the service you need.
No to early for that change in life, go in and get checked there could be any number of things that cause this. Make sure for your sake and health.
They're all right! Make an appointment with someone else if you can't communicate with your current one. I also use a female gyn because I feel we can understand each other better. Please get this checked out.
Could be perimenopausal symptoms, do you exercise excessively? This could also be a contributing factor.
