I'm a mother of a beautiful 3 month old baby boy. My husband and I have worked hard to put him a a regular schedule (usually asleep by 9). I work 2nd shift M-F and my husband basically works swing shift. I don't want to put my son on our schedule just so we don't have to suffer with being tired and its not a good schedule for a baby. Needing suggestions on things that have worked for other mommy's. I bought vitamins and I hope that will give me a little boost. My energy level is so low, I have to push myself at times to make it thru the day. Anything over the counter, herbs, vitamins?????

Been there done that!!! LOL I have a 3 year old and an 8 month old. I went through this with both. My total savior would be GNC'S "Vitapack" I have tried EVERYTHING ELSE! WITH NO LUCK. But this gives me EVERYTHING I need!. I take one (sometimes in the morning) but usually mid afternoon when I eat a good lunch. I have a lot of energy!. No jitters or anything after it wears off. It is amazing!!

Best of luck on getting more energy! :) Sending energy vibes!!

You might want to check with your OB to make sure your thyroid or iron counts aren't low, both of which happen often after pregnancy. Both can make you even more tired than "normal" with a 3 month old.

I can imagine...you guys working different shifts and then taking care of the baby. (I wouldn't bother with a doctor personally.) A good multi-vitamin is always a good thing, but it needs to be a good multi-vitamin. Just something at wal mart over the counter, isn't gonna do at all. I would go to a local health food store and get a whole food vitamin or even an herbal vitamin, but whole food would be your best. Elminating processed foods including sugar can only bring you down more.

Now to an herbal formula for energy...(I know they have them in health food stores, just not this brand...which I use). It's called Bee Power Energy formula. Here is the link and a little of what it says...

http://www.herbsfirst.com/descriptionsformulas/beepoweren...

Bee Power is a formula of skillfully blended herbs designed to help sustain the body with strength, energy and vitality. This formula helps to create whole-body balance rather than stimulate and burn out the body's systems. This formula helps to stimulate and combat stress and anxiety.

You can find something similar at a local health food store, if you don't want to order online. Good luck! And you guys take turns taking naps over the weekend too!

you didn't mention if you are breast feeding? that can have a say in what is safe. have you asked your doctor? for the past three years I have been using an energy supplement that is working for me http://www.GotEnergyDrink.com it is something that you would only take if you are going to be awake for say 6-8 hours though since it lasts so long.

Ashlee, I would nap whenever I got the chance to. Does he do three naps a day? When I had my first baby, I was very tired, trying to get used to the whole idea of taking care of someone else, including myself and keeping up the house/apt. I took a couple naps a day and didn't feel the least bit guilty about it. It's a HUGE adjustment and many of us moms have totally been there. Take a vitamin because if you aren't breastfeeding, you may not be getting the vitamins you need. Keep your baby on his schedule. I always have believed a scheduled baby is a happy baby.
I now have a 3 yr. old, a 6 month old and am due in October with our 'surprise' baby. So I know about being tired!! Fortuantely for me, the two generally nap at the same time and can get a 15-30 snooze in.

Hi Ashlee,

I can certainly relate to your situation. I commend you on your strength as a mother, however; I feel you went back to work to soon, not giving your body time to heal could be one factor. Please seek some medical attention to make sure you're not an anemic (low blood count, lack of iron, severe fatigueness). You probably could benefit from taking some iron pills. Once my doctor prescribed me some iron pills to take for two weeks. I was a new person, and no longer had severe fatigueness. I had the energy to do more tasks at home and at work. Thanks and hope this was helpful......S.

Ashlee,

I agree with some of the other posters that you should definitely discuss this matter with your doctor, but being tired just seems to be a way of life these days, especially where children are involved. I have found that the Vitality Pack of vitamins from Melaleuca have really increased my energy level. Melaleuca vitamins include an ingredient called oligofructose complex(http://www.oligofructosecomplex.net), which allows much greater absorption of vitamins (between 80-90%) whereas we only get about 10% of the nutrients from say Centrum or One-A-Day and these products aren't cheap but the majority of the vitamins "pass" through our systems. Send me an email if you're interested.

I think you probably ought to discuss this with your doctor. Lack of energy is a part of a host of depressive symptoms, and you may want to talk about whether your doctor thinks you have post-partum depression. It's clear that you've got a lot going on. I think your medical practitioner can offer advice to help you though what is a very tough period with an infant.

Hi Ashlee,

A multivitamin/mineral is great if it absorbs. If it doesn't, then it can actually do more harm than not taking one at all. There are only a couple on the market that I would even consider. I also use an energy bar on occasion if I'm just dragging but you need to be careful with them as well as sometimes the high content of sugar just does the opposite of what you need. I can recommend one or both if you like.

Exercise will also give you energy. You don't have to go overboard, just a morning/afternoon walk with the baby to absorb the Vitamin D you need from the sun and a little aerobic time. It will also give you a little quiet time as well.

God bless!

Hi Ashlee! So sorry for your struggle. You are working so hard and understandably tired! I think most moms with little ones are, so know it is pretty normal! I do have a couple of herbal (plant based products) that have helped me from Arbonne. All they have is naturally based and SAFE for you. One is the fizzy NRG tabs (citrus or pomegranite). You just drop one tab in a bottle of room temp water (then can add ice if want cooler after shaking). It is delicious and a great natural boost/surge of energy (from the fruit guarana). The description from their site says:

NRGGO3 Fizzing Beverage Tablets, Citrus Surge #6461
These fizzy tabs boost energy, control appetite and increase metabolism with an exclusive blend of ingredients to help you with weight loss.

The other product that I love for help with energy is like a healthy tootsie roll: On the Go! Weight Loss Chews, Chocolate #1962. "These mouthwatering snacks contain Keep Going! Herbal Blend that helps control appetite and delivers a boost of energy between meals." (also comes in Mocha or Pink Lemonade).

You can ask me any questions or order them through me at: www.gwenhalsey.myarbonne.com or call me at ###-###-####. I think this could help you. Let me know what you think.

Dearly,
G.

Working and taking care of children is hard. Stress tabs with iron helps. Schedules unfortunately don't always work. Be understanding, if you're working and taking care of children. Have hubby help plan meals, do some housework even though he works too, he lives there and had a responsibility to the home and child and you.

B complex can really help with energy. If you don't already take it, that's a good. I've got 4 little kids and know what you mean. Coffee is important to my day! lol. But I also take the B-Complex daily.

Hi Ashlee, I so feel for you. My years of having a small baby in the house tested me to my limits at times so even though our circumstances are not the same I can really feel for you! I just talked to one young Mom who ran out of her multi and noticed the difference within a couple of days. I use and recommend Shaklee Vita Lea. I have taken these throughout my years of nursing and being pregnant and it has made a world of difference. I usually take a B-complex as well and they have a product called Core Energy that I have taken as well and was very pleased with but I always recommend taking just the multi and B complex first since that alone will do it for a lot of people. Yes I am a distributor but I have used the products for going on 25 years now and with the 23 years of constant nursing and being pregnant I have really given them a good testing and personally would not recommend anything else. I will say though watch your diet and make sure you are eating real food and not filling up on things that won't help. Sugar and refined foods will zap your b vitamins right up and stress of course does the same thing but we don't always have control over that now do we? Anyway take care of yourself as best you can and give Shaklee supplements a try. They are 100% money back guarantee if you are not satisfied so you have nothing to loose! The multi is just over $10 a month to take. You can contact me through my web site or just order from there if you are interested.

Sincerely,
K. B
