Hi moms, we recently purchased a ds for my 6 year old son for his birthday. He got super Mario 64 and high school musical games that day, but I am stuck as to which other games to get him. I have been comparing professor layton and the curious village and animal crossing harvest moon, as they both sound kind of different but I am having a hard time finding any reviews that suggest an age. Is there too much reading involved in these? He is a pretty good reader, but I don't want him to get frustrated! I would love any input you have on these games!
Thanks!

What can I do next?

M.,
My son is seven and he loves his DS. He is into Pokemon right now but he does have other games. I stick to the E games, and you can get used ones at game Stop.

we waited till he was 10 before my son got a video game system of any sort and then he got his DS. he loves his pokemon and ratatouille games. he got 5 games with it at christmas and will likely get about the same amount in a month for his bday.

My 7 and 8 year old boys enjoy the Cars games based on the movie and the Star Wars Lego games. I just saw Smart Boys on sale at Target in Lewisville and it is fun but educational, my boys often fight over who will play it. If you get the games used at Game Stop they have a 7 day return policy if the game is not what you had in mind. Good Luck

Not much help on picking games but i traded my daughter's gameboy advance at game stop and they have new and used games you can purchase for the DS. I do compare the prices of what she wants to the used ones they have there though. You can get some really good deals. You can trade old games you do no need or want etc.

Good Luck!

Most of the games have the level on them. Like E for everyone...etc.
I would just make sure it is age appropriate for him before you buy it. I am really strict on what games my son gets even at 13. Hope i helped

I have Professor Layton and I liked it a lot. There are over 200 puzzles in it, but the puzzles would be too advanced for a 6-year old. If you want to give him puzzles, maybe Brain Age would be fun for him or Flash Focus. I have Super Mario and I like it. It's very similar to the old school Nintendo game.

Guitar Hero just came out for the DS and that game involves hand/eye coordination which may be a lot of fun for him.

You might want to go on Nintendo's website and check the reviews on games that he could play for his age level. Also, if you have a Wii, you can now download pre-selected demos of DS games through the Nintendo Channel and they change regularly.

Hope this helps!

Another game I just thought of that I have which I love is Pogo Island. It has a few of the solitaire games from Pogo.com (popit, tri-peaks, word whomp, etc.) You can play the individual games or as an overall game that incorporates the games onto a playing field.

You can rent them at Blockbuster first. They don't have all the games of corse but they may have some of the ones you are thinking about. I noticed one of the other Moms suggested Brain Age. I have that one and some of it is too hard for my son who is turning 7 tomorrow. He likes the Big Brain Academy better. Again some of the games are a little tough for him but he can play more of it than Brain Age.

If you are ready to buy some, I was at Toys-R-Us yesterday (B-day shopping) and the DS games are on sale but 2 get the 3rd free.

My 6 year old daughter does well with Tom and Jerry (not too much reading). We have had the same difficulty, because she also is not reading to the level of the games.

I have found that if I go through it with her, she remembers what the statements are at different places. She enjoys Little Mermaid and My little Pony, which he may not enjoy these "girl" games. There may be the boy equivalent available.
