Night Sweats? - Boulder,CO

Do any of you suffer from this? I've always had night sweats (even as a teenager) but it seems like they are getting progressively worse and it is so hard to get a good nights sleep. I woke up last night around 4am completely soaked - I ended up having to change my clothes - it stinks.

I don't think I'm pre-menopausal (37) but since I"m on the pill I'm not sure the symptoms come across the same.

Have any of you figured out a way to limit the night sweats or gone to a drs for it?

Thanks

It is some kind of hormone imbalance. I have always had slight imbalance of my hormones but I started having BAD night sweats in my late thirties. I never really got this under control until I found a doctor that dealt in the bio-identical hormones. He did a blood test to determine each hormone level and other essential vitamin and mineral levels. He put me on thyroid medicine and that helped a lot.

My mom told me if she limits the caffeine to the morning only and gets exercise during the day that helps.

It's definitely a hormone imbalance, we just don't know which hormones are involved.
I wouldn't rule out peri-menopause.
Although a lot of women start in their forties, some can start earlier (or later) and you can have symptoms for 10 years or more before your periods are gone for an entire year and you are officially menopausal.
Why don't you see your ob/gyn and tell them about it?
They can measure your estrogen level and either rule it out or confirm it.
For me, the hot sweats are under control if I take Estroven.
It could be hyperthyroid, but there would be other symptoms - jittery, anxious, can't sit still, eating all the time and still losing weight, brittle hair and nails.
Your doctor can measure your TSH (Thyroid Stimulating Hormone) level, too.

Thanks so much for asking this question - I have the exact same thing going on, and I'm 37, and just went off the pill to try for baby #2. I've noticed for me it happens right before I start my period. So maybe it's just hormones causing night sweats. I guess I should check with my Dr. too, just to make sure all is kosher.

I'm not a doctor but I would see a doctor since night sweats are associated with many things, one being cancer. If you've had it since a teen I doubt it's that but would sure get it checked out. Ask for tests that would find anything the doctor suspects could cause this. I know menopause causes some night sweats but I don't think that is it since this started so young and has continued. Menopause can happen at 37 but not common, although if on the pill you would need to ask your doctor.

I had night sweats for a month or so that we eventually linked to my asthma. They put me on oral steroids and bumped uP my inhaler and the finally went away.

Have you had your thyroid checked? Night sweats are a symptom of hyper-thyroidism, or possibly just a hormonal imbalance. After my first son I had post-partum hyperthyroidism and I would wake up soaking wet. So my suggestion is to get your thyroid and hormone levels checked. If you want the name of a natural doctor who does this, let me know (that's the route I went).

I've been keeping my room as cold as possible without having my husband die from exposure.
I find that if I stay consistent taking black cohosh it really does help, but lots of times I forget to take it and go back to sweating again. Try it. I also bought some One A Day vitamins for women that has some extra stuff in it to help with hormonal balance, seems to be helping me so far. I still wake up at least once or twice tho. When I do actually sleep for the entire night it completely freaks me out because it's so uncommon!
