Newborn Night Clothes

That was my worry w/ both my kids and my mom told me whatever you are comfortable in for that weather, add a layer! It seemed to work pretty good!

Hi there, I have 2 boys...ages 6yrs & 3yrs...when they were young...I would always just use the cotton sleeper's. You don't want them to get to warm. That should keep her warm at night. If she still sleeps in her basenett, you can bundle her in a thin cotton blanket to help keep her warm. I hope this info has helped you.

My 6-month old daughter (and almost 3-year-old son before her) sleeps in a terry-cloth type sleeper and a Halo sleep sack. I got mine at consignment sales and on E-bay (much cheaper than brand new). They have different sizes and she did not sleep through the night until we started using the Halo sleep sack.

I have a 3 month old (my third girl). You need to get one (or three, because of spitup issues!) of those sleep sacks. Here's a link to see what they look like. They're great because they're one piece and you don't need a blanket which increases the risk for SIDS.

I agree with everyone. A good rule of thumb is if you are comfortable so, shall she be. My kids have been in cotton with a blanket and onesies. It does depend on the kid. My children are of vaires ages but, they all seem to have what they like to wear to bed.

I always put my baby girl in a onesie, socks and then a pair of footed sleepers and she stays plenty warm. (Even when I keep the house freezing cold to save some money!) She will be just fine, but you could get some fleece pjs for dead of winter. She'll be fine.

what your baby should wear will depend on your baby. If your baby gets cold easily, then something warm, if you baby gets sweaty, then something less warm. What I have learned in the 7 years of being a mom to 3 babies is they are in charge. lol ;) I hope this helps, Good Luck!

After reading these replies I am thinking....My gosh these kids are wearing lots of clothes! Our house is kept fairly warm and I did not want our little one to overheat so he just slept in a onesie from the start and at 7 months still sleeps in a onesie with one of those thermal blankets. The sleeper sacks just made me sweat looking at them and we use the thermal-type blankets because they seem cooler.

as long as you keep your house around 72 degree, then a cotton pajama will be fine. Just keep her covered with a flannel or thin blanket while shes sleeping. And like one mom said, if your cold, she prob is too. good luck and congrads on the baby!!!

My doctor always says that your house should be warm enough for them to sleep in a onesie with a sleeper over it. Our son wears a t-shirt and cotton pjs or footed sleepers, whichever is clean at the time!! Just remember If your cold, she's probably cold. Always put a cap and jacket on when she goes outside, we learned that the hard way. We keep our house around 71 degrees all the time. If your still unsure, call the doctor, that's what they're there for!! I used to feel crazy for calling my doctor all the time, but then he said that that's what they're there for, and anytime we had a question to call.

I saw a sign posted in my pediatrician's office that was giving tips for SIDS prevention and it said that the ideal room temperature for an infant sleeping is 65 degrees farenheit- to me that is cold- so I would agree with what everyone else is saying- cotton sleepers or onesies or whatever- I personally would tend to avoid any kind of blanket- but I'm just a paranoid Mom with a 3 month old (my pediatrician said the peak risk time for SIDS is 3 months). Congrats on the new little girl!

It depends on the child.. my first son got warm rather easy, so no I didn't put him in warm ones. Newborns are all wrapped up in their little blankets when they sleep, now when they start pushing the blankets off of them then yes I would. It also depends on the child, because some are warm blooded and others are not. you don't want them to get too warm either. I can usually tell if my baby is cold just by touching his hands, arms and face.

During the cold months, I like to dress my kiddos in onesies underneath their fleece pajamas. It keeps them pretty warm at night, especially when my daughter doesn't sleep with blankets half the time.

I don't think you need to do anything extra with the pajamas unless it is cold in your home. If you have a home that regulates temperature fairly well, she should be fine. Doctors recommend a sleeping temperature of 65 degrees.

Yep, one more light layer than you would wear is sufficient. It is not good to overheat your newborn at night time. One thing I used a lot was the halo sleep sac thingy. It was basically a blanket that zipped up the front and was sleeveless and so I put a long sleeved onesie underneath it. Our house is very drafty and my son stayed plenty warm in it. Otherwise, he wore a lot of gowns with elastic at the bottom for ease of midnight changes...

i agree with everyone here... especially that you don't want to overheat your baby. we keep our little girl's room right around 68 degrees, and she wears long cotton jammies (long sleeve and pants) with a fleece halo sleepsack over it. she is almost 9 months and is still in her sleep sack now, not so much to reduce the risk of sids, but because i don't have to worry about her not being under the covers and getting cold. she manages to sit up, crawl around, and even pull up in her crib in hers, without frustration. are you still swaddling her? we swaddled ours until she was close to 6 months old, because she just liked it alot. the bottom line is, as long as your house isn't overly drafty (like others said), she should be fine in cotton or flannel. a good t-shirt material sheet would keep her a bit warmer than a regular cotton sheet, too. congrats and good luck!

Dress your baby in what ever you wear....If you comfy in t-shirt and blanket then so will your baby. Just don't over bundle your little one.
And when my little ones were first born their ped. said that if their bellie is warm then they are fine. When they are first born up to 4 months old their arms and legs don't have as much blood flow to them yet, as we do.....

All the advice below is great, it all depends on your baby. My daughter loves to be warm but my son to this day gets hot very easily. Whatever you do just remember that if they start to get sweaty or clammy start stripping layers,you don't want to overdress a baby since they aren't able to control their body temperature very well. I've read that over dressing is a contributor to SIDS, as if we need one more thing to worry about. Hope this helps.

I have 2 little girls, both born in Dec. I used both cotton and flannel. Just make sure to put a t-shirt/onsie under the PJ's and she should be fine. I really liked the "blanket sleepers" that zip.

One thing to remember is if you are too cold,chances ar so is she. Same thing goes if you dress to warmly. If your home has good heat, use her cotton ones and a good blanky. I have four children and never had to use the flannel ones.

I have a 3 month old that had trouble maintaining his weight before he came home from the hospital. I worried constantly about his temp. Sometimes over bundling is worse. A blanket sleeper is fine. In fact, I actually but him in a cotton sleeper and cover him with a fleece blanket. After all, my mom raised three children with blankets and sleeping on our tummies! I also have raised two others this way.

I had a newborn preemie last winter so I was really concerned she stay warm. I just dressed her in the cotton sleeper and then put a fleece sleep sak on her. She stayed in in most of the day too at first. It is like a wearable blanket. SIDS awareness endorses them. THe HALO SLEEP sak. At any store, target, walmart, toys rus. I loved it. Actually great to keep them warm till they start sitting up and crawling, then they get frustrated in it. Highly recommend it.

What you dress her in depends on how warm your house is. If you keep your house warm then the cotton should be fine if it tends to be drafty or cool then switch to fleece. I use the blanket material sleepers because it is always cold in my house.
