Mamas & Papas-

A niece arrived this weekend. They've named her Holly. Any thoughts on a clever baby gift? I was thinking about maybe some decor items, an alphabet with animals/flowers, botanical prints, or some toys for the 9-12 month stage. This is my BIL and SIL's second child. They live abroad, so I would prefer something that doesn't weigh much because shipping will be costly.

Thanks,
F. B.

So What Happened?

Thinking about getting the melissa and doug pull along wood frog, and or the fisher price kick and play piano. My kid enjoyed each of these. Neither are too loud or offensive, and they are handsome to look at.

Best,

My go to baby gift is one of those really nice soft personal blankets that is satin on one side and soft on the other.

There is a specialty shop here that has a lot of them, high end and SO pretty and soft. Everyone I have sent one too loves them.

Since it is for a niece, I might add something to my gift such as a savings bond, proof set of coins for her birth year, etc.

Start a tradition. Every year, Auntie B. gives Holly a BEAUTIFUL Christmas ornament for the tree. Not one of the cheesy ones with the year on it, but a lovely pewter or crystal one from Lenox or Waterford. Sturdy, classic design, no paint or plastic to flake off or fall apart.

These are gifts that will last a lifetime, be cherished, and when she moves out and gets her own place she'll have 18 or more beautiful ornaments for her own tree.

My sister lives about 8 hours away and I had to bring gifts for her baby shower last December. Her favorite thing I gave her was a handmade personalized blanket from my good friend. It's her favorite thing for baby still!

Congrats on the new niece!

If they celebrate Christmas, a pretty " baby's first Christmas" ornament might be nice. Especially if you could find one with holly leaves and berries on it.

Hallmark just put out their keepsake ornaments. A baby's first Christmas might be nice. We're getting one ourselves for our new baby boy that is a cute little white bear in a stocking.

I like the ornament idea, especially if you're up for making it a tradition, every year (birthday gift).

And you can never have too many soft blankets. Do you sew? O. of my favorite gifts was a set of two lightweight warm wart her blankets handmade from light jersey fabric. Perfect for summer.

My sister got both my kids a wood puzzle of the letters of their name. Both kids love their puzzles. My 10 year old still loves his - it's a happy baby memory for him I guess. Not that he uses it anymore! They are thin and lightweight.

-a plush blanket
-a swaddle blanket
-cute stencils for her room
-a sm square canvas you paint for her room (get the smallest one. Light-
weight to mail.).
-the toys you attach to their car seat handle. Not everyone thinks of this
& my youngest loved this at a certain age/stage.
-a plastic see through piggy bank to start her bank acct. Put $5 to start.
-a blank journal book you write your very own message to her. Things
about you so she'll know you, things you know about her mom & dad,
what's going on in the world at the time, add a family recipe to
be handed down etc.
