New Mom Looking for Childcare

I am due in January with my first baby girl. I am very concerned about what to do about childcare. I am on the waiting list for the daycare at my work, but it is $800/month. Is that a reasonable rate? I would love to find a place/ person that is cheaper, but I don't want it to compromise the care my baby is given. You always hear, you get what you pay for... I plan to take 8 weeks off of work. Is it too soon to start thinking about this? I am guessing I won't need childcare until the end of March. Thanks for your help and advice... Any help would be appreciated since I am new to all of this!!! :)

What can I do next?

I pay 175/wk for in home day care and it's awesome. I had to go back to work after 7 weeks and trust me, it's better to think about these things NOW than after the baby is here because you will still be in 'new mommy brain fog' by the time you go back to work, so take the time now. Look up the daycare on the state site and ask for and call the references. My old employer had day care, but it was AWFUL!!!!! Check it out and make sure it's the right place for your baby.

That's about the rate they're charging now on daycare centers, I haven't seen anything under $185 per week for infants.

What part of Dallas you live in will determine if that is a good rate or not. So what part of town do you live in?

Yes, $800/month is the current rate for a newborn. If the daycare is at your workplace that`s a bonus, you can drop by to check on your baby often, and in case she`s not feeling well you can take her home or to the doctor in no time.

I believe the going rate for newborns is anywhere from $165 to $190, depending on where it is located. If finances are an issue you may try to locate a center that has a sliding scale tuition which is based on your income. My 4 year old is at The Shepherd's School which is located on Swiss & St. Joseph near Baylor Hospital. They have a sliding scale tuition available. You can also contact The ChildCare Group to get free referrals based on your needs.

Try this website link, it is the state of texas website for all licensed child care providers. You can find one according to location. You can also call around for rates and visit the ones you are interested. It is never too early to start searching for quality child care, your children are always worth it. In any case, I am a child care provider so if you have any questions about rates or advice I am more than happy to help.
