6 of 1, half a dozen of another.

Another techie house here... (3 desktops & 5 laptops for 3 people... 2 dell &1 linux box desktops, 2 PC laptops and 2 Macs and 1 Alienware). I love and wouldn't part with my macbookpro. My son and his macbook are insepperable. It's the speed. They are INSTANTLY "ready". No wait time. Fast, fast, fast.

We went with an Apple and love it. The only thing I would recommend would be purchasing Windows application for an Apple computer. That way you dont need to 're-learn' all the word stuff on Apple. It has worked out great for us. Good luck!

I have a Mac and love it! I agree with another mom who said to get the Microsoft programs on your mac. I have Word, Excel, Powerpoint so I didn't have to relearn the mac programs and the documents are compatible with PC's. Macs NEVER have viruses and they rarely ever need repair.

As my husband would say...its six dozen of one...half dozen of the other. Its all about preference...and what you want to spend....
He is, unfortunetly, not at TI guy, rather a software engineer with NASA...but he will say, its all about what works for you and what you want to spend. If you dont REALLY know what you are doing when you are buying that PC....WATCH OUT!!! They can take you for a ride!!!!
We have a HP...he likes it...I like it for what I do on it....cost: $580.....

As a woman who lives in a house full of Tech-E freaks, whose house is filled w/ 3 regular computers (all PC's) and 4 laptops (3 PC's and 1 MacBook Pro) and an iPad...I say go with a Dell, they are good and inexpensive!

Don't get me wrong, I love my MacBook Pro and the iPad IS pretty swank, but for the money, I say a regular old PC is the way to go! You really can't get a Mac for under a $1000...to me its just not THAT great for the extra $ you have to spend!

~Just FYI, my DH is a computer programmer and has several different machines that each serve a different purpose, then myself and my 2 oldest SS each have our own laptop...were really not that weird, I promise!

Riley and I are very similar.
HUGE geek house! It's what my DH does for a living. He bought me a macbookpro about a year and 1/2 ago and I wouldn't give it up for nothing!
I had a Compaq before. Our daughter had a Dell required by school and last year switched to a Mac. Our son was the first to get a mac when he went to college a couple years ago, again after having something else.

Since I am NOT a geek and just live with one here is a perfect example of the difference in the technology. Not good, better or best, just different.
I am scanning literally thousands of slides and pictures for a party for my in laws in a couple of weeks. Do to the volume, my DH was going to help me.
With my Canon scanner and Mac Book Pro, I was getting through an entire tray of slides before my DH was getting through a single slide with the old scanner and he Dell. *The old scanner wouldn't talk to my mac so we had to get the canon.

Good Luck

We have Lenovo's at our house...well, my oldest got herself a Mac and loves it.

My husband is an engineer and has had several different computers. The Lenovo seems to work very well and we haven't had any problems.
