Have your child checked for head lice.
My child has been scratching his head for about 3wks now,
and at first I thought it was just a normal thing but then I startednoticing
he just wouldnt stop scratching his head. I checked his head and I didn't notice
any type of dandruff. I recently heard Selsun Blue is good to for dry itchy scalp.
Can I use Selsun Blue for my childs hair?
Have your child checked for head lice.
If he's in day care/preschool/school- check for head lice. It's that time of year! And if you find them, go to the pediatrician for the cure- lice are now resistant to most of the over the counter meds. Look for tiny white bugs -especially around ears and at the nape of the neck. It will give you the "willies" if you find them- but better now than once everyone in the house has them.
Hi L....did you check his hair carefully for possible head lice? They pick it up from who knows where and then urghhhhh!
Check for head lice. It's very common among children. Your pediatrician can give you a prescription.
Hi L.,
My son had what is called seborrheic dermatitis. It was horrible. His little head was so itchy and dry! His ped recommended selsun blue, and it was wonderful. The only thing, though, is that it does not have a pleasant odor, and your kid will stink like this stuff after you wash his head! But it's temporary, and it's worth it. Mt son was only 4 months old when I had to use it on him. If you're really unsure, I would just put in a call to the doc,and get his opinion. But you should be fine. Good luck.

Yes, my Pedi said that I could use Selsun Blue on my infants cradle cap, so I'm sure it is safe to use on your child. It works great too. I tried it on my hair, but nothing great happened. My daughter it was great on.
Have you checked for head lice?
It is unusual for children to get dandruff however they can get dry scalp. You didn't say how old your child was but if in daycare or school, that much scratching sounds like lice to me and shampoo won't get rid of that. If you don't know how to check for lice contact your doctor and they can help. Woud need a special medication for the scalp as it is highly spreadable and you can't get rid of it without that special medication stuff. The longer you put that off the worse it gets and it gets all over your bed linens etc. and is a nightmare. Good Luck.
Like the other mommas said check for head lice too if he goes to daycare or school. Also, look real close because you might not see the white eggs and see the actual lice which is brown. So if your child has brown hair it is going to be harder to see.
Check with your doctor but when my son was a few months old with cradle cap the doctor said that Selsun Blue would help and he was younger than your child is now. I would think it would be fine.
Yes you can. My baby had cradle cap and my pediatrician recommended it,it works great.
not sure how old your child is but mine is 16 mo and our dr told us to use sel. blue but only three times a week. we now have a diff. dr that says we can use head and shoulders every single night so we are now trying that. he also said to scrub pretty good, even use an old tooth brush or something, bc it is dead skin and all you need to do is remove it. my dd does not itch from it so i dont worry about it and have not tried the brush thing just the SB and HandS.
Lice was going to be my suggestion as well - My daughter is in school now and this year we have had to treat the house three different times - OH IT IRRITATES ME - but - its a fact of life.
A way to keep it at bay though is Tea Tree Shampoo on a routine basis - or keep the Lice Shampoo on hand and use it about once a month just as a precautionary measure.
It can get costly if it is not treated immediately - you have to wash all your sheets, blankets, towels, clothes, spray the mattresses, cars, car seats, everywhere you and your family has been - and never think you can treat only the child - you have to treat the entire family. These are traveling critters if lice in fact is the culprit.
Good luck
