Hi Moms!

I need to find a new Rheumatatologist, and I am hoping you all can help. I was diagnosed with Rheumatoid Arthritis 5 years ago. It has been getting worse, and I need to change my treatment. I have a doctor, but I am not really pleased with her bedside manner. She is very abrupt and not very cordial. I'm thinking it may be time to switch to IV treatment, and I want someone who is caring and shows concern as I will be new to the process and I don't want to be treated like a number. Can any of you recommend a good rheumatologist? I live in Carrollton and would like to stay in the Plano/Richardson/Dallas area if possible. Thank you so much for your help!!

What can I do next?

I like Dr. Jessica Procter in Dallas. She is very nice and spends the time that is needed during the appointment.

My husband sees a rheumatologist at PHD. His name is Don Cheatum. He came highly referred and we have a successful patient/doctor relationship with him.

Good luck!

I agree, if you haven't tried them already, there are many supplements that can be very helpful with arthritis. I've seen people get relief simply from increasing omega 3's (a natural inflammatory). There are some aggressive supplementation programs you could experiment with.

That said, I hear Scott Zashin is an excellent rheumatologist, but I don't know whether he accepts insurance. It would be worth checking out. I know 3 different people that think is is awesome.

I do not have a dr to recommend. But I have a friend with RA who started taking Fish Oil (as recommended by her dr) and has in the last year or so had remarkable improvement. She is now able to get out and enjoy time with her children and live a more normal life.

If you want additional info, send me a message directly and I'll find out from her or maybe she'd be willing to discuss it with you directly.

Best Wishes!

I don't know of a good rheumatologist, but you might consider whether other autoimmune conditions aren't contribution to your worsening symptoms. Celiac disease is highly correlated with RA:
http://digestive.niddk.nih.gov/ddiseases/pubs/celiac/#other (also there is lots of research published in medical journals on this, but few doctors ever read medical journals and there is no drug, so they aren't taught this in CME classes since those are sponsored by drug companies).

You can get tested on your own here: www.enterolab.com

Also, the DR4 gene that is one of the ones that predisposes one to RA is also one whereby the individual doesn't detoxify well. So, if you have been exposed to mold, for example, that may contribute to symptoms. Also, heavy metals. I have the DR4 gene and have been impacted by all these things. A GF diet and following several toxin elimination protocols have helped tremendously. My pain level has been dramatically reduced.

Hi S.,
I go to Rheumatology & Associates. I see Dr. Stanley Cohen. He is very compassionate and really listens to my concerns. He has several locations. The Dallas location is located @ 5939 Harry Hines Blvd. Suite 400 Dallas, TX. He also has other associates who work with him. My experience in regards to my treatment has been wonderful. I hope this helps.
