My husband recently bought a Thomas the Train bed (the big $250 one) from one of his co-workers. BEFORE he bought it I told him to ask if the home was non-smoking. He said that he did, but I am not sure if the people lied or if he never asked. Whatever the case, the bed smells like smoke. It is plastic so I thought I would be able to get the smell out. I have scrubbed and scrubbed that bed and it still has a stinch of smoke. Does anyone know how to get cigarette smoke out of hard plastic? I would hate to waste our money, but if the smell doesn't come out we will have to get rid of it because I refuse to let my son sleep in the bed until the smell is all gone. Thank you
Not sure if it would work for plastic, but I bought a costume from e-bay once that smelled like smoke after multiple washings. I finally washed it with vinegar in the water - it was like magic. I would try washing it down with vinegar and then sitting in the sun for a couple of days. Good luck! I hate that smoke smell.
Good morning, E. I. I have no idea if this will work but try (outside) using 1 part rubbing alcohol to 1 part water and then let it air out. Like I said, I have no idea if this will work but it's worth a try. Good luck!
Just take it outside and let it bake in the sun. Its truly as simple as that. May take a day or two but the smell will be completely gone.
i suggest leaving it outside too... use a cleaner that is good for grease... belive it or not the tobacco/nicotine/whatever leaves a slightly tacky residue on everything. dawn dishwashing liquid maybe? or if you really wanna get it, get some really harsh bathroom mildew cleaner - something that'll devour that residue.
then rinse with the hose and leave it out in the yard for a few days... the rain obviously wont hurt it, and may help wash it off :) (after all...remember the big buzz about acid rain? :) ha! j/k)

Put it outside for a few days, won't hurt the plastic. Also try a paste of lemon juice and baking soda or flour rub it on and let it sit for the day.
Can you please let me know if anything worked out? I have almost the exact same situation. I purchased a Step Two Plastic Car bed off Craigslist. I asked if it was from a smoke-free home. They said yes, but there was this weird hesitation that should have tipped me off that it was a lie. The smoke smell is mild since we washed all the pieces with a magic eraser and all purpose cleaner before using it. My husband can't smell it, but I can. I really don't want to keep using it, but my son is already so attached and I'd hate to upset him and have wasted the money. Help please! Thanks!
My company has a product among others that are safe for your environment and will tackle your problem. A friend of mine's boyfriend had a car that reeked with cigarette smoke.
It was so bad that you would start coughing as if you spoked those cigarettes. She used my product and became a customer. No chemicals. reasonable prices.
