Need to Buy a New Vacuum Cleaner/steamer

I would love to hear what others say. I have a Sears brand canister vacuum and its falling aprt not the engine, the hose, the handles, the wheels. I'm also looking. I went to the library and check comsumer report and they talk highly of the hoover. Maby you want to go that route. Good luck

I LOVE my Dyson! I have terrible allergies to dust mites and I have three dogs (- I know, I know...I'm crazy but they are rescues and I am sucker for their sweet faces!) :) Anyway, I had another great vac and had just vacuumed my carpets when we brought home the Dyson. I was so amazed when we got two Dyson containers full of dirt from my freshly vacuumed floors! I was convinced right then and there that I made the right decision. Plus I only take one allergy pill a day instead of 5!!! Kohl's has affordable prices on Dysons.

I've actually been really happy with our $29 (black friday price) Dirt Devil Featherlite from Sears. I think the regular price is about $40. But we don't have very much carpeting, mostly just area rugs and our finished basement.

I have a Floor Mate for my hard floors, and I like it, but it hasn't been very reliable. It needs service again, so I'm trying to decide if I want to pay another $50 to have it fixed or buy something else. I'll be interested to see what others have to say about the h20.

I've had my Kirby now for 20 years, and it works like it did the day I got it. I have had it in a few times for a "tune-up" but that only cost me about $25 each time. I know it's probably on its last leg, and I'd like another one eventually, but I really hate their sales practices. I wish you could buy them in a store. They are very high pressure and they really should just let the product sell itself. That said, I really really like my Kirby and would highly recommend one. (I have the shampooer attachment and it works well, but it's a long day of shampooing and I just hire that out now to a carpet cleaner.

In the last 10 years, I have owned and parted with three vacuums - Sharp, Hoover windtunnel w/ bag (best out of the three) and Hoover Windtunnel w/out bag (the WORST out of the three - it just fell apart!)

In October, I finally agreed to having the Kirby people come and show me a vacuum/2 room shampoo demonstration. We bought a Kirby (minus the shampooer - I have a shampooer, didn't need that feature). I did, however, need a longer hose to do all of my stairs.

For the cost of the three vacuums, I could have had a Kirby. My neighbor just brought her Kirby in for a "tune up" and says that it works as good as the first day she bought it. Hers is 9 years old. I love it!!!!! I'm hoping it's the last vacuum that I ever have to buy. There is some wiggle room in the price and they always have financing options. They also had a "pay by cash/check option" for an additional off. We took advantage of that. Good luck.

EDIT: Someone mentioned Hoover... If they are talking about the Bagless Windtunnel - I had nothing but problems. It cost just slightly less than the Dyson, at the time, and, because I had pretty good luck with my previous windtunnel (w/ bag) I bought it. I did not have any pets and vacuumed twice a week and yet, in the middle of vacuuming, I had to empty the canister because it had already lost suction. Then the hose fell off, then the canister cracked........ Awful, awful, awful!

I have the Bissell Heat Pro and I've had nothing but problems with it. It never worked great when it came to the function that spread the cleaner and the water. The nozzles get clogged easily, right now it's broken and would cost a lot to fix. I can't tell you what one to get, but I'd say DON'T get the Bissell Heat Pro!
