Hi!
The toy box I have for my 16 month old dd is so deep that she has almost fallen in a few times reaching for items at the bottom. Are there any other options other than a toy box? I seem to remember seeing bins on a sort of bookshelf but I forget where I saw them or what they are called. Any links or suggestins would be appreciated. Maybe even an alternative that most haven't thought of?
Thanks! You all are great!!

What can I do next?

Try Ikea. They have great storage ideas from kids. You can use them like book shelves or buy containers that fit, and are various sizes, (not too deep).

Good luck!

I read though your post and see people suggested

Rolling carts with drawes
the open cube shelving

I've also seen a unit that has three rows of colored bins that are on an angle so it is easy to reach into them and to see into them, I think they run around 40 I've seen them adveristed at target and also micheals craft store.
I haven't gotten one because many of our toys are larger and i'm not sure how well the bins would work for holding A train set or fisher price playsets, But for smaller things like Barbies or blocks they might be good.

I'm not a big fan of toyboxes because it seems so jumbled and hard to retrieve what you want. but they sure do sell some pretty ones.

Rotating out the toys is probably a great idea.

My daughter recieved a TON of dress up clothes for christmas and i'm trying to figure out what to do with them besides dumping them in a rubbermaid tote. If anyone has any ideas please private message me.

S., I think this is a great question! I hope you find something at is useful, Oh and becareful of safety issues, i can just invision a shelf toppeling over if someone tried to climb it. Good luck

Hi S.,

I have a 2yo and a 6yo both boys. I found the plastic drawer bins to be extremely useful for both. They are about $20 at Walmart. They are extremely helpful for learning as well simply because we separated certain toys in each bin and we got stickers to resemble the toys in those bins. This makes clean up much easier as well, b/c I don't have to tell them where everything goes, they can see for themselves. This works for me, maybe it'll work for you. Good Luck, A.

Target has them! Also, so does Pottery Barn. I would not buy them at WalMart, but that's me! ;-)
Also, what about those mesh pop-up bins? Nice because you can collapse and store them flat if there ever comes a day when they are not stuffed with toys--yeah, right!
Oh--also, at Target they have these wire shelf things that you can configure as cubes, shelves etc. I have them in my son's closet and they are decently sturdy for toys.

I would check out Ikea... they always have fun stuff. Probably Walmart.com or target.com would have that wooden rack with all the small bins

I have two ideas for you that I use. One is a shelving unit divided into cubes. I think Target has one on sale this week that has 9 cubbies (3x3). The one we have has 8 cubbies (2x4). I bought fabric drawers for the bottom row to hold little items. Books and larger toys go on the top row and on top of the unit. The second idea is plastic carts that have drawers. I got a few of them at Walmart. Not only were they convenient, but when my son was a toddler, he spent hours emptying the drawers and refilling them. The drawers were as much fun as the toys in them.

Go to Target. They sell lots of storage containers that work great as toy boxes.

We have a couple of these 9-cube units from Target -
http://tinyurl.com/a2hzhg

The have canvas bins that fit into the cubes, and they really hold quite a lot. We tend to put our heavy things (books, blocks, etc.) on the bottom and then lighter things in the higher bins since it seems less likely to tip and is also easier for little kids if they pull out the bins (no heavy things going to fall on their heads). We also put some of our larger things, like Little People garage, etc. on top of the unit, so overall the two units hold a lot. There are also other pieces in the collection, like shelves and cabinets, which work OK for some things (we have a cabinet that holds a ton of puzzles). You can also anchor these pieces to the wall if you need to.

We also have one of the smaller racks that has the plastic bins at an angle, but I personally find that the bins don't hold much and it's much less stable than the larger unit.

Hope that helps!
