5 year old daughter says she feels like she is still peeing after she goes to the bathroom but only in the morning, she also changes her underwear a lot. I have taken her to the pediatrician and a pediatric urologisit they all tell me she is perfectly fine, but I feel like I am going crazy. It is not UTI's, there is nothing wrong with her kidneys or bladder. Any other suggestions?

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

I have her drink cranberry juice regulary and lots of water, I use all natural hypoallergenic soaps for laundry and baths, I do have her scheduled with a naturopath dr so I am hoping that may provide some answers or help. I just feel so helpless. No she never wets the bed and her underwear are never wet when she changes them - I even have her feel them and try to understand why she wants to change but this just makes her upset, she just wants to change.

When I was young I used to feel like I had to go when I did not, or like I was going to go when I did not mean to. It used to make me cry. Later I found out it was because I was dehydrated. I started drinking lots of water and have never again had that problem.

Have you tried introducing cranberry juice to her diet - just in case? After my catheter (joyful I know..) my nurse told me cranberry juice can help coat the urethra and reduce that "sensitive" feeling.. as well as being great for you.

Maybe they missed something. Could she be allergic to the detergent you're using on her panties? Does she take bubble baths? What about what soap she uses when she washes herself? Something could be causing irritation. I think I would start slowly switching out possible irritants -- starting with no more baths and getting a hypo allergic soap (Johnsons baby wash comes in bar form).

Sorry I don't have more to offer - but I agree that a second opinion sounds like a worthwhile suggestion.

Just to clarify, when she changes her underwear, are they wet?

How long has she been saying this?

I know you feel like you're going crazy... but I would take her to another doctor. Seriously, sometimes moms have to go to several doctors before they find one that can truly help. Don't let them convince you that you are crazy!!

Neurology? I used to get that really intense tingle when we went down a steep hill (why? I have no idea, but I do know I wasn't the only one, because so did my best friend and her sister) ... Some girls seem to just get nerve firings "down there" (clitoris?) more often or more intensely ... some of us don't ... sometimes it goes away or gets more as we grow older ...

I could see pressure from a morning-full bladder triggering the nerves in front of and below the bladder, in a way daytime-full (not as full) bladders wouldn't ...

anyhow, I doubt doctors have a test for that, especially for little girls, but you could kinda watch her symptoms and see if it fits ... might not relieve the problem (so to speak ;) ), but at least you'd know what it might be.

I would take her to a naturopath because they will check her for allergies which may be her problem. I know several people who have had this problem. I would also go to a NAET naturopath just in case it is allergies.

In case it isn't allergies the naturopath should be able to help your daughter with other remedies.

She might not be draining her bladder enough in the morning. Do you remember when you had to fill your bladder for an ultrasound and then they had you empty it, but continue to try to empty it and they checked other things then?

Well, I wonder if she isn't getting her morning pee completely empty. Maybe have her go potty again soon after the first and see if that helps. Or, figure out how to get her to relax more and get the rest out.

Hello, my daughter goes through this periodically - she is now 6. My suggestion is to add a little cranberry juice to her daily diet. I know that you said it isn't a UTI but my daughter seems to have a better time if she is drinking her cranberry juice. My sisters daughter is the same too and the juice seems to help her also... just an idea!

Hope it gets better
