My husband and I are trying to make more time for each other and I am looking for a few recommendations around the Chicagoland where we can have a date night without our kids. I am looking to do something new. I am considering Hollywood Blvd movie theater but thinking that I might want something more romantic. I am not really sure if I want to spend my alone time with my husband seeing a movie, on the other hand I don't want to waste money on getting a hotel room when I can spend that money taking him somewhere else. I am looking for something that isn't too expensive but very nice. Can anyone recommend anywhere to go? Thanks for your help.

If you want to go somewhere downtown, you could always go to the bar at the top of the John Hancock for a drink, then dinner somewhere in the area - you could cab it over to Quartino's - I love that place! Or if you don't want to go downtown, go to dinner at Rose Angelis - on Wrightwood just east of Southport. Be sure to ask for a table in the back room, it's the best room to sit in. The setting is so lovely and intimate, they have AMAZING Italian food and wine, and if you go, save room for dessert!!! You can make reservations, or you could go and just put your name in (the wait is usually about an hour to an hour and a half on weekends), and you can go to one of the 2 bars across the street, and when your table is ready, Rose Angelis will call the bar so they can let you know your table is ready. My husband and I are working on a babysitter now for next week so we can go!!

What about a day trip into the city? There's tons to do and it can be a nice experience. This time of year, you could do ice skating at Mileinium park or any of the museums. I think the Art Institute admittance fee is a donation only, but I'm not sure. In the spring/summer there are all kinds of fun tours both walking and boat tours.

I sing in a choir at a church on the north side and our director (Patrick Godon) is the organizer of a wonderful group called International Chamber Artists. If you like classical music, they are performing at the Belden Stratford Hotel on Sunday, Feb 14; I believe it's at 3 PM. They do other performances. Check them out at
icamusic.org
With that venue being in Lincoln Park, one could then have a nice dinner Also if you like music, Million Dollar Quartet at the Apollo Theater is not to be missed. I personally know the actor who plays Johnny Cash (Sean Sullivan), and he is fantastic. Good luck. .

I totally agree with Abby! I love the lounge at the top of the Hancock building called the Signature Lounge. Every time a family member or friend comes to visit from NY I take them there. The drinks are not very expensive and the view is outstanding.

There are also some websites that you can sign up on that will give you 1/2 price or discounts on restaurants in the area that you get.

Fondue!! Very romantic! And a nice looooong dinner. We go to the Melting Pot every year for our anniversary. You can request a private table with a door at some locations. Closest one to you is in Oak Brook Terrace on Roosevelt. Not sure if that one has the private tables.

I started getting tickets to SecondCity performances, but we have a bit of a sarchastic sense of humor and it's only a couple of blocks away so it was easy for us.
On my list is cooking classes at the chopping block but that's pretty pricey considering you are doing the work to make dinner for yourself.

Google "free things to do, chicago" and you will get a lot of ideas. Chicago is always better in the summer. My husband and I hardly ever pay full price for anything. Restaurant week is coming up (February) and you can have a great night out with good food for about $30.00 each. Sign up online with "Goldstar" and you can get discount tickets for theater and other events. The hotels have special rates also on occasion. Once you start looking for things to do, there is always a deal somewhere.
