When they got that old, I would put all I could in the toilet and flush. Then put the diaper in the plastic bags. It helped some.
I don't get it. I put by daughter's poopy diapers in sealed zip lock bags, then into a plastic target sack, tied up, then into another plastic target sack, tied up. I toss them in the trash bin, and they still stink!!!! We have to take our trash bags out early, half full and its very wasteful. I tried keeping a pail in the garage for the diapers, but every time we would go into the garage, it smelled so bad, we wanted to pass out and die. I've tried diaper pails, but now that she's eating solid, regular food, they aren't working. Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

you might try these sassy diaper bags from wal-mart, they have a baby powder scent. they are baby blue and in the infants section.
Try instead of putting them out in the garage keep them in a cool, ventilated place inside the house. Then coat the bottom or maybe the whole inside of the can with your favorite essential oil (I use lavender). Then I use baby powder coated bags that I've only been able to find at Big Lots, so I'm not sure if you can find them in your area but I would further suggest just dropping some scented powder or potpourri in each of your zip locks. I hope that helps, its what works for me when I use disposables. When I use cloth I just flush the waste away, you could try that with your disposables too, I suppose. Hope that helps.
Try the diaper pails that have the place to put a deodorizer inside them. They always worked great for me. My sister-in-law used the Diaper Genie. Don't know if they still make them, but check with Babie's R Us and they should be able to help you. They are kind of like a trash compacter.
We have a diaper genie that REALLY helps and I use a air spray to help just after cleaning her (or 15 month old) up. At 21 months you might consider potty training... that would take care of the issue. I do think that our diaper genie was WELL worth the expense, I can't live with that horrible smell in my house- especially not since my house is on the market!
My little one is eating solids as well. We use the same hands-free Graco diaper pail he had when he was born. It has a filter which we replace monthly and it works wonderfully! Sometimes I use an additional monthly drop-in deoderizer disk which I get from Babies-R-Us. Every so often, I fill it with a mild bleach/soap solution to clean. We don't ever smell dirty diapers.
try putting baking soda in the dirty diaper bags...the baking soda should absorb the smell :)
we cloth diaper for the most part, but when we do use disposables i always dump the poop into the toilet so there is less poo to make the trash stink....
I know that smell!! When we had two in diapers it was rough :). I started tossing the poop in the potty and flushing it. Then wrapped the diaper up in a scented bag they sell them them in the trash bag section they are 4 galllon bags. I think they are called ruffies. It helped a great deal on the stink. We also moved our trash can outside (they city supplies us with bins) by the side of the house. I think being in the garage where there is no air makes the smell that much worse. Best of luck!
