:( Poor thing. I remeber those days! I put braces on myself at 19!
Pudding, ice cream, soups, pb and j she can tear pieces off. It will get better!
Smoothies would be good too, lots of nutrients and she doesnt have to chew!!
I am a mom of 5 kids, ages 12, 11, 8, 5, and 5 months, and I am expecting twins in 2 months. My 11 year old daughter, who is in 6th grade, and she just got braces yesterday. All she wants to eat is really soft foods, and I need some ideas for some good soft foods. Even oatmeal hurts her mouth. Any suggestions would be very helpful.
Thanks!!

Mom of 5
Thanks for the ideas Moms!!!!I will try them with my daughter and see how it goes. It's really amazing, though, because my 12 yo son had braces put on in april, and it was much less pain for him.
And, yes, I adopted my 5 month year old from haiti, sorry for the confusion. It's gonna be crazy with 3 little babies, lol.
Thanks again for the ideas, I read every single one of them, and for those moms who see this, and have not answered, I would still love to hear your answer too!! I will still be checking this.

Smoothies, yogurt, soup, etc.
The worst of the pain will be over after the first few days.
Just curious, though, if you have a 5 month old how can you POSSIBLY be expecting twins in 2 months? Even if you conceived immediately following birth wouldn't they not be due for another 5 months at least?
Sorry but that is throwing me for a loop!
Rice, mashed potatoes, ice cream, yogurt, noodles that are pre cut... Hopefully this helps I remember my braces.
Jamba Juice smoothly with protein powder. You can even buy Jamba Juice smoothie kits frozen at Costco and make them at home.
Cup of noodle
Go gurt yogurts in tubes
The apple sauces in a tube
Did they say if she can take Advil?
I hope she feels better soon!
Geez....a prior answer states this woman adopted a little girl!
Smoothies with yogurt & fruit?
Homemade soups/broths?
Applesauce?
Cottage cheese?
My cousins daughter had her jaws wired shut and, eventually, they put just about everything in a blender!
When my son and I got our braces about 8 months ago, we lived for Orajel! Get her some. It'll help quite a bit!
As far as food, I agree with the foods the others have said.
Good luck!
I had my braces put on the day before Thanksgiving. I feel her pain. I remember how much any pressure hurt. I had mashed potatoes, my mom whipped them so there were no chunks, smooth ice cream-plain with no added anythings, yogurts, etc. We just stuck to food with a smooth texture for the first little while. They will eventually not hurt and she will go back to eating almost everything-no popcorn (they can actually break the braces) and no sticky food (can actually pull the braces off). Yeah, I learned the hard way, broke them once and pulled them off once. Good luck.
Soft pasta.
Yogurt.
Ice cream/yogurt smoothies with a spoon/straw.
Bananas.
Spaghetti.
Heck, even those ramen noodle soup things...
scrambled eggs
steamed/mashed carrots
mashed potatoes
baked potatoes
pea soup
It will only take a couple of days and she will be bak to normal.
My son got braces (and a herbst device) over the summer... I was amazed how quickly he adjusted. Just allow her some advil or something as needed the first few days and don't insist she eat "healthy" right now. She will go back to her normal habits very soon.
rissotto's are good. custard, soups. My friend ate pureed lasagna after her wisdom teeth were removed!!
The veg and fruit squeeze pouches marketed for babies
Forget the food, I am trying to figure out how you have a 5 month old and will deliver twins in two months?
As far as braces, smoothies are good, scrambled eggs, yogurt. She should only be sore for a day or two.
Had the same curious question as mamazita?!
All the goodies Emily H. said. Also cottage cheese, pudding, mac n cheese (in a day or 2), broth... Poor lil thing. Good luck!
My GD just got braces about a month ago. she has done really well. Just a few days of soreness and then all good, thank goodness!
She had a lot of peanut butter and jelly sandwiches, cantelope, watermelon, scrambled eggs, applesauce, pudding, and yogurt.
Hope she feels better soon!
pastina with butter was popular for my daughter, but it only lasted about two days and she was fine.
A., I have a better solution than soft foods, so she can eat anything she wants. I had braces as a young adult and on the bottom teeth again as an older adult. What you need to do and this can be done in the office if she is going to school afterwards. Run some warm water in a cup and add some salt, mixing it well. Have her rinse. When she gets home in the afternoon and again before bed, use the warm salty water and there should be NO pain.
I only had pain once and that was the first time the dentist put on a wire for movement - I didn't know what to expect. I went to work and literally had to tear my sandwich apart swallowing large pieces.. I remembered when I had extractions done of wisdom teeth, that doctor allowed me to rinse without spitting (to preserve the clot). I went to a breakfast meeting with other dental professions the next day and they were all surprised I was without pain.
So my additional visits to the orthodontist was to rinse before leaving the office - the doctor actually bought a box of salt to have in the office for me.
My 2nd time around, the dentist here didn't want to believe the salty water solution helps and one of his assistants said her mom did the same procedure.
This has to be done within 2 hours of a wire tightening or anything causing movement of the teeth (you don't want the pain to set in). When I last had them done, we went shopping and I forgot to rinse, went to lunch, felt the pain coming and asked the waitress for salt and a glass, we added warm water, I went to the restroom to spit the water out and was able to eat lunch with no pain.
Hopes this helps you and anyone else with braces and those who need extractions as well.
