My mom has used John Ramsey (Ramsay?) before and likes him. His office is right next door to Alta View Hospital at 9400 S 1300 E in Sandy. I hope this helps a little, and good luck!!
I am wondering if anybody knows of any good Opthomologists (sp?) in Salt Lake. My pediatrician is referring us to one in Boise, but we would rather go to Salt Lake. Thanks.

I would recommend Dr. Hoffman. He is also at the Moran Eye Center, but his office is at Primary Children's. My daughter has seen him since birth, and she has had three surgeries, and he has been fabulous. He is really caring and he explains himself very well, and he really puts you at ease. He is great with the kids. Like the other Dr., he too is incredibly busy but if you are on time to your appt., it isn't bad at all! He also has a really good office staff, which is the icing on the cake.
I also recommend the Moran Eye Center. Dr. Crandall is an excellent doctor. I don't know if he does pediatrics, but you really can't go wrong by going there, I hear all the doctors are great. Dr. Crandall restored my Mom's eyesight after a bad cataract surgery. Good luck!
Dr. John Alder is a good one and very kind. His office is just north of the Fashion Place Mall if that location is convenient. I don't know his info, but he's in the book.
The Moran Eye Institute up by the U in S.L. has some really great ones.
I second Dr. Scott Larson, hands down. He works for the Moran Eye Center in SLC, but also comes to Orem once a week. My son has Albinism, therefore also has several eye conditions associated with it. After seeing another Ped. Opth that was awful, Dr. Larson was very highly recommended to us by our pediatrician and several people that work with disabled children in the Alpine school district. He was very kind (to us and our son) and knowledgeable. Last I checked there was a 2-3 month wait to see him, but it is very well worth the wait.
There is an amazing one at Primary Childrens Hospital in Salt Lake. He is at the Moran Eye center inside Primary Childrens. We took our son at 2 to him and he is now 5. He is wonderful. We got his name from a friend of ours that goes to him and loves him as well. Just call Primary Childrens and ask for that department. We usually see Dr. Larsen but there is another guy there also, I just can't remember his name but he is super nice as well.
When I read your post I too thought of Dr Dries up at Primary Hospital. Our son was born 3 months premature at 1lb 3 oz and had mild ROP when he was born. Dr Dries even came to the NICU at St Marks to check our son's eyes. We had many follow up appointments at their office and Dr Dries is very quick with his eye exams (because what child likes their eyes looked at) Like the other mom said, the office is very busy and if you're not there on time you may have to wait a while.
Good luck!
How interesting. I am from Utah and worked as an optician for about 8 years there. Do you need to have an ophthamologist specifically? Great OD's(Doctors of Optometry) are the Rice brothers in Draper, UT. ###-###-####. If they have to be MD's (ophthamologist's)go to Dr Moran ###-###-####. Hope this helps!
Dr. Hoffman is considered on of the top opthomologists in SLC. He was one of two that specializes in pediatrc opthamology in the Rocky Mountain Region when I found him. People come from all over to see him. Hoffman is at the Moran Eye Center located in the Primaray Childrens Hospital. it does take time to get in to see him but the ladies that do the scheduling are great to get you in if it is your first time. We go there every 6 months to a year. My son has seen him since he was just a few months old and is now 16... Hope this helps.
We've been going to Dr. David C. Dries. He's with the Moran Eye Center, but his office is at Primary Children's. My little boy has been going to him for 4 years. We really appreciate his honesty and his concern for his patients. His office tends to be busy, and so make sure you go early to your appointment because you could wait a while to get in. However, when you are with him, he's really good to you and your child. His associate Dr. Larsen, is also a really good doctor. If you have any questions about either one, please let me know.
Dr. Scott Larson is the absolute best!!!! I promise you, I have twin girls and they both had crossed eyes (strabismis) and he had performed 3 surgeries on them, 2 on 1 and just one on my other daughter. He is younger, but very kind and gentle. He was recommended to us by the NICU at Utah Valley State Hospital and many other well known Doctors He works at the Moran Eye center by Primary Children's Medical Center. I would recommend anyone to him, I absolutely trust him. He once drove down here to Provo after my daughter had a little puffiness after a surgery. He didn't want me to have to drive up to SLC with her, isn't that awesome?
