Need Recommendations for Occupational Therapist

I think my 5yo son may have some Sensory Integration issues. I have printed out the checklist and I have gone over it in great detail with descriptions from birth until now. Can any of you recommend an Occupational Therapist in the North San Antonio Area? I asked my pediatrician, but she did not know of anyone specifically. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

What can I do next?

My husband is an OT for a school district and knows many. He recommends Diana Barrera at Stone Oak Therapy Services and Learning Institue ###-###-#### / www.stoneoaktherapy.com / 78232 / ____@____.com). He does NOT know her well but has met her through his connections and says that she specializes in Sensory Integration and is certified in that area. Hope that helps.

Hi A.,

Since your son is 5 yo he does qualify for assistance with your school district. It may be in his best interest to at least have him diagnosed and start therapy. Usually, the earlier the intervention the better it is for him, especially if he will begin Kinder this next year.

Good luck, don't stress out----I'm sure others will provide you with some great names locally.

Debra

There are several therapy groups in town but unfortunatly finding a great OT with Sensory training is very hard indeed. I can recommend some groups for you to call and hopefully that will narrow your search. There is Stone Oak Therapy, they have a website www.stoneoaktherapy.com, Rehab Associates located at Dezavala and Locke-Hill Selma, Therapy Links on Huebner and then Treehouse Pediatrics. There is a great resource guide on the Autism Society of San Antonio's website that may provide more help to you. Their website is www.autismsocietysa.org

My daughter has Sensory Integration disorder and I know with early intervention things have gotten much better for her. There are some really good books on the subject as well. The best series I have read is the "Out of Sync" series. Check them out they will have alot of great advise and help steer you in the right direction. I hope this helps.

Good luck,
M. B

Check with your school district. There are resources available to evaluate your child and make recommendations based on those results. I had my son evaluated at 15 months through this program.

Best wishes,

The people at Pediatric Therapy Associates, www.pediatrictherapyassoc.com , are amazing. My son has seen a physical therapist, speech therapist and OT there. He, too has some sensory integration issues. My son and I both love that place!
