Hello Moms!
My 11 month old son has extremely dry skin and nothing we try seems to be helping. Any recommendations for a baby lotion that works really well? We have already tried J&J, Aveeno, and even some prescriptions... Please help!
Have you tried just vaseline? My 1yr old has excema (spl?) that only pops up on her cheeks, causing them to crack and be bright red all year. The prescription meds and other lotions help sooth it, but vaseline is the only thin we've found that will protect it and actually reduce the redness and cracking. We do regular lotion/meds and then layer on some vaseline once the other is dry -- especially at bed time or when we will be out in the wind.

My 4 yr old son has slight eczema and we switched to all organic soaps and lotions from the health food stores. We use brands such as "Jason" and "Alba." We also use the laundry detergents that don't have dyes or perfumes and Bounce makes a dryer sheet that is unscented. If there are really dry patches, I use vitamin E lotion (also organic.)
In the process, we discovered it helps all of the family have better skin.

Eucerin Aquafor; it helps the driest most irritated skin. You can buy it at Walmart or a drug store.

Hi T.!! I use and highly recommend Renew lotion, Koala Pals soap and Koala Pals Shampoo. They work great on my girls...doesn't burn the eyes, hydrates them very well and it doesn't contain any q15 (formaldahyde releaser which is in alot of personal products)...so it's very safe and healthy for them!
Good luck!!

Please don't shoot me down ladies. I just want to remind you health conscientious ladies about using mineral/baby oil and vaseline are petroleum based products. Since the skin is our largest organ, please note that the mineral/baby oil penetrates the dermis and may cause other problems in future. Consider usi g olive, grapeseed or coconut oil in its place. Perhaps you could make up your own baby ointment and use to promote softer skin. Good luck to you. The other S.

Both my babies had very dry skin and I tried everything even oatmeal baths....finally, I started using on them what I use on me! In the wintertime, I use Kiehl's body creme...they have 2 kinds...one is in a tall body with a pump and its too light...the other is in a round pot and is thick--it worked perfect on my 2 girls.

I just took my son to the pediatrician for eczema on his face. I told her I've been putting cetaphil on it, but it stays red and extremely dry. She prescribed an eczema cream and then told me this: she said to throw away all the expensive lotions like eucerin, etc. The best thing for the skin is plain vaseline, (she did say it comes in flavors now which are fine). It is greasy at first, but our skin sucks it in within a half an hour. I used it on my son for a full day while the Rx was getting filled and it looked SOOO much better within a day. I put it on his face about 2 times a day and it does absorb quickly. My other son has also had chapped lips for 2 weeks and kept putting chap stick on them. AFter the tip from our Dr. about the vaseline, I used it on his lips. Within a few days they are MUCH better! I hope this helps!

I have a botanically based skin care, health and wellness company.
We have an amazing line of baby products. The products are also great for eczema. I use them on my 6 year old who has eczema and they work wonderfully. I also like the way they make my skin feel.
All of the products are botanically based, hypoallergenic, ph correct, dermatologist and peditrician tested, contain no animal products or by-products, never tested on animal and contain no mineral oil. Every ingredient in every product is pure, safe and beneficial.
Please let me know if you'd like more info.
Take care and God bless!

My DD has eczema. What works for me (non-steriodal - don't like those) is a mix of Eucerin (generic kind is also fine) and vaseline or aquaphor. I put it on at her bath at night and again in the morning. Works better than anything else we've tried. Good luck.

At the advice of our dermatologist, we wash with Ceravae and then use their lotion after bath. My son was diagnosed with severe eczema that was scaring his legs from all of the scratching that he was doing. Oatmeal bath packets in the bath water help relieve itching and soften the skin too. When the outbreak is severe we have a prescription of Vanos ointment. My son is six years; however, my two year old daughter broke out with a leathery patch on her side for the first time. Two nights of Ceravae and one night of Vanos brought it under control. When the kids are really little, I have used Aquaphor and Boudreaux's dry skin ointment. The Boudreaux's has a vanilla like smell that is wonderful.

T., Have you ever tried Arbonne products? Their baby products are wonderful. They are recommended by dermatologists for sensitive skin. They are Swiss Formulated, but made in the USA. These products work so well because they are botanical based and also have NO mineral oil. You can only purchase through an independent consultant. If you are interested, you can contact me at ____@____.com. I would be happy to send you a free sample to try first to help with your babies skin:)Also, I have 3 boys and this is the only product I will put on their skin...I love it! Good luck!
Sincerely,

Hi T.!
I would suggest trying plain old coconut oil. You can get it at any health food store, and it is an excellent moisturizer. It won't be too expensive, and it lasts a long time! I do hope you find a good solution in one of the suggestions you've received!
God's Grace to you,
Lisa :)

My daughter had the same problem when she was little. First of all, don't use J&J products. They are very drying on their sensitive skin. We used to bathe her in Aveeno and then slather her (without drying her off) in Eucerin Cream (the really thick nasty stuff). We applied the cream several times a day because of her eczema but when that cleared up we still put it on after baths. Now, she uses all natural soap and has had no problems. The cause is the chemicals used in commercial products. Even lotions have chemicals in them. Not to sound like I am pushing my own stuff but I started making handmade soap back in April. That is all my family uses now and no one has problems with dry skin. This time of year, my hands would get so dried and cracked that they would bleed. I could have bought stock in lotion companies, I was going through so much of it. I H.'t had any issues yet this year. Anyway. I hope you find something that works for you.
My son has eczema, and my dad is a dermatologist. He told me when he was born to use nothing but cetaphil wash (or the generic version) on him when bathing him - or the aveeno baby eczema wash is ok. I also use aquaphor, atopiclair and cetaphil lotion on him. Also, our pediatrician told us to bathe/shower him until his skin is wrinkled, then put the lotion on about 5 minutes later. It really works. The other thing I've noticed is that I cannot use dryer sheets, can only use a free and clear detergent, and must wash anything new before he wears it. He still has a little eczema, but overall his skin is much better. Good luck!

My 4 year old has very dry skin and she used to have a dry patch right on her tummy. We use Aquaphor right after her bath, on her lips, or wherever needed. Also, glycerin based soaps (the see-through soaps) rinse off better than the fatty solid bar soaps. I'd avoid most baby bath types- too many chemicals/fragrances. Cetaphil and Eucerin are good. My DH and I make our own skin creams- mix up a batch of vaseline, shea butter, cocoa butter, Jergens lotion, and vitamin E oil- we mix it all in a bowl and refill our bottles and jars. The whole family uses the concoction. Also, I would try not to over wash baby everyday- especially in winter- just hit the critical areas (face, hands, bottom)
