Need Passport Photos for Infant

I need to get a passport for my 3 month old baby. Does anyone have any tips or recommendation on where to go for the photos? I got mine at Costco last year for a reasonable price (maybe $5 instead of $15 everywhere else? Whatever it was, it was a heck of a lot cheaper), but for a baby, it might take a "few" tries and require some patience on the part of the photographer...passport photo requirements say their eyes must be open, hands can't be in front of their face, etc. Would Costco do it for a baby, or is there a better place? Anyone else gotten a passport for their baby?

What can I do next?

The photo studio at the Taylor Wal-Mart (I-94 and Escorse Rd) does passport phots and the ladies who work there are really nice. I use to work that Wal-Mart was treated great when I went to have my passport photo done. The lady that I really like is Nicole. I can't remember what the portait studio is called off the top of my head but you could call the store at ###-###-#### and they can give you the direct line to the portait studio. Best of luck to you.

I had a good experience at AAA
My daughter was 4 months... they put the background on the floor and she laid down on top of it. It took a few tries, but they were very helpful.

I just got my 3 mth old baby's passport last month and we went directly to the post office. The pictures were $15 but they were fine with doing a baby and had a white blanket and everything ready. We just draped the blanket over her car seat and set her in it for the picture. It only took about 2 wks to arrive also! Hope you're going somewhere fun!!

We did our child's passport photo at Walgreens. At the time she was a year old. But I know the Post Office will do it too. But they cost more - at least they did when we were getting them done. Which was a few months ago.

I know at the Post Office they will take them until they get it right. And they only charge you one fee no matter how many they take to get the right one. Not sure if Walgreens would too. I guess you'd have to ask them.

I have had passport pictures done for my daughter twice now. She was only about 2 weeks old when we had her Canadian pictures taken. They have more strict rules than the USA has (ie not smiling, mouth closed). We did them at Costco and they turned out fairly well. I took her to a Rite Aid store for her USA photos - she was about 6 months old for those and they also turned out well.

The only suggestions I have are that you go when the baby is normally awake and happy. Ask them to get the camera and everything else ready before you put the baby into position, and don't be too selective about trying to get the cutest photo ever! My daughter has a ponytail on top of her head for the US photos (like Pebbles Flintstone) and to this day we get smiles when they scan her passport and see the photo. It totally outshines the lack of a cute facial expression! Good luck, don't stress about it too much, and have a great trip!

We got our sons passport photo at the Post office when we applied. He was a baby then too and we struggled at other places and when we got to the post office, they said that they do photos now. You might call and ask at the place where you're filing the application. Sometimes they include the photo services too.

We had this need with our daughter, Anna when we were traveling to London. We used AAA insurance. You don't have to be a member. Bring in your car seat so the child can sit up. Have the child wear solid color clothing, they are easier to see in the picture. It costs 15 bucks or so. Enjoy your trip. Another really important thing to remember is to be sure to renew the passport at 4.5 years. Adults expire every 10 but kids only every 5 and if it is not current they won't let you travel and if is only current for 6 months remaining they wont let you stay. Have fun and good luck.

The post office in Rochester would not a baby photo. We went to Walgreens and it worked out great. Our son was 3 or 4 months.

I used to be a Sears Portrait Studio Photographer. They have a special infant chair, perfect for holding an infant that size. What I would do is call ahead and ask to speak to a manager. Explain what you need. Then, ask when she is on duty or when another more senior photographer is.

The thing is, they have a camera all set up for this too. You just want to make sure some young kid (like I was) is caught unaware. If the manager explained to me how to do it, I would have been fine to take the photo... we do kids that age all the time... I just wouldn't know if there was something special for the infant unless told. At eighteen, it's sometimes hard to notice the obvious... same photo, different size head LOL.

Yes, I had my daughter's infant passport done at Costco. Not only was it inexpensive, but I didn't have to wait long and they know what they're doing. You have to hold your hand behind your child's head but can't show your hand...or something like that. When my daughter turned 5, I had to get her a new passport and went to one of the photo places who also happen to take passport photos and not only did it take a long time, but they didn't know what they were doing and had to take a few tries, etc...

We went to CVS in Madison Heights (13 Mile and John R). The manager was amazing. They had it down completely. They actually took the screen off the wall and put it on the floor so she could lay on her back. They spent a while getting the perfect picture but it was amazing.

I know they also will do infants at the Royal Oak Post Office.

We took our 10-month-old to Sears, that is where the passport office recommended going. It was $14, which seems ridiculous but the girl was very patient and knowledgable. I was surprised at how many other babies were there for the same reason. Good luck!

If you have a digital camera and a great quality printer, you can do it yourself. Look at the state's website www.michigan.gov and they can give you the details about passports.

Hi,

We actually went and did ours yesterday. Since both parents have to be present and you have to apply in person for a child under 16 we decided to just do everything at the Post Office. The woman took as many pictures as we wanted until we found the one that satisfied all the criteria and looked good to us. The whole process from beginning to end took 15 mins. We thought it was well worth it. Good luck!

P.---My son worked in the photo dept. at Walgreens in Clarkston. From what I know, they do a really great job and I'm sure they would be more than patient with taking a baby's picture.

Good luck.

We did our 6 month old's picture for a passport ourselves. We laid her on a white sheet and took of picture from her head to her shoulders, we did a little cropping and they accepted that. It was a lot easier to do it in the comfort of our own home. We took a few shots and got the right one. On the passport application is all the requirements needed. Just follow that and you should be fine.

I went to AAA. They were the only ones I could find that would take a picture of my 2 month old.
The price I think was about $9 (but maybe somebody without a membership has to pay more).
Good luck

I went right to the post office. It might cost a little more but they took several pictures until it was exactly what they needed. In the end, I was holding the baby up and away from me against the white background.
