J.,
First of all, congratulations!
Be prepared to be referred to as being of "advanced maternal age," like it or not LOL! ;op I know, no fair! I gave birth to twins at age 40, and Dr. Joseph Kilianski delivered them. He is at the same practice as Dr. White who I noticed has been referred to you by a couple of other ladies. Dr. Kilianski specializes in high-risk pregnancies (not that yours is), and I highly recommend him as one who is capable, caring, friendly and with a sense of humor, too. I enjoyed dealing with everyone in his practice, and they were flexible with billing matters when my insurance was being difficult on some issues.
I was with a two-female doc practice when I delivered my son 11+ years ago. They were fabulous...however, my primary doc was pg herself and had her own baby six weeks before I delivered. Her partner delivered my son...she was 5 months pg at the time. They both retired soon after to take care of their own kids, and I had to find somebody else. Also, I must admit that I prefer to not have such a tough time getting an appointment with my doc once I am no longer pg. I have found male OBs (the good ones) to often be more available and more willing to go the extra mile to keep their patients happy (some even take off-hours appointments), because so many of us are flocking to the females these days. Certainly nothing against the qualifications, capabilities or manners of the females! Just another perspective...always good to weigh all the pros and cons before making such a big decision.
Regarding the lack of insurance, I'd call Baylor Grapevine to ask about their pricing options. When I delivered my son at Trinity, they had a special price for paying all at once at the time you leave the hospital (credit cards okay) that was about 1/3 or less of the standard price. Physician's fees of course would be separate.
Anyway, the phone # for North Texas Women's Healthcare Associates is ###-###-####. Good Luck!
L.
