Hello, I"m hoping someone knows something about this...My 3 1/2 wk old son, was recently circumsized in the jewish tradition with a moyle on the 8 th day. Everything healed up fine but now it is very swollen where the cut was made. I'm really worried, is this normal or not?

Thanks for your input,
R.

So What Happened?

So, we all trekked to the doc on the 31st, (my daughter had a sore throat, so she went too), the doctor said everything is fine, apparently the spot where the cut is made is very tight skin, and the skin just below the cut is very soft, like an eyelid, so it can tend to swell very easily. He said this skin will eventually loosen up a bit, and swelling will eventually dissipate. Go figure. He also said to treat it like a diaper rash and use plenty of ointment to keep moisture away. who knew little penises were so complicated? My daughters sore throat turned out to be just that, and not strep or tonsillitis like I feared. Thanks for all your input, it was much appreciated.

I do not feel that this is normal. Is there redness around the cut, and is there drainage ,order ,hardness,lumps, color of drainage in diaper? Are you doing any treatments?

I don't really know about this, since I don't have a son. But I recomend to call the moel. I'm sure he knows what the healing process looks like, what you should look out for, and what you can do if it is getting infected. I know a name and number of a really good moel as well, if you need it. Another idea I have is to call a local midwife I know. If you're interested you can email me at ____@____.com

This is a late response so I'm sure you've got it taken care of already. Just wanted to say my advice. R..

R., This does not sound normal. Perhaps it's gotten infected or just irritated. I would take him to the doctor.

Ditto, and soon. Our son had complications and the doctor said that can get very serious very quickly. It is probably just irritated, but you want to know for sure that it's not more. Ours was just the area wasn't cleaned well enough. You might see if you can gently pull the skin back a bit more and if you see white stuff it's not clean enough. The dr. will know better how far to pull back and how hard. Our son cried when he did it, put it cleared up the irritation.

I do not have boys but watch two of boys since shortly after birth and this does not sound right. Give your pediatrician a call just to get a professional opinion.

Hi R.;
if the swelling is red or has red streaking, then that is not okay and indicates infection.

Hi there. Just saw your entry and glad everything worked out. If you ever have another son (LOL), contact me and I'll give you the name of a great moyel in CO. We've all gotten terrific results with no problems and even some non-Jews use him because he is so much better than a doctor.

There are only a couple of moels in town, unless i am wrong (one's a pediatrician and one's a urologist) and both a very good, so don't feel uncomfortable with our local talent for future use. I know, everyone imports.
Mazel tov on your baby.
The cure is universal so it will apply to many things: Clean it (gently patting), dry it (air it out) and cover it up (smother it in ointment).
