Need Information or Insight on Knee Problems in the Third Trimester

For a couple weeks now I have been experiencing a problem in my left knee and I'm not sure if its due to babyweight or if it's just something wrong with my knee. I'm only 134 pounds and I'm 28 weeks and only 17 years old , so I doubt it could be of old age . I had a slight problem with my knees before I became pregnant but I only experienced minor discomfort when I would dance but now I experience pain going up and downstairs and walking . I still attend highschool and my highschool has 3 floors so the pain has only gotten worse . My question is to just find out , is it normal to experience pain in only one knee because of pregnancy ? Or I should see a doctor to find out the true issue ? Any response that pertains to my question would be very helpful !

What can I do next?

I had pain in my knees, different pain in each pregnancy. Stretching helped. I also was completely normal weight 135lbs at birth. It is normal.

Believe it or not, but there is a hormone called "relaxin". Unfortunately, it impacts every tendon and joint in your body and can lead to increased discomfort and pain. It is meant to allow your pelvis to open up for the birthing process.

I have found that heating pads and soaking in the bathtub helps with that discomfort.

Good luck.

M.,
Hormones loosen everything up. There are instances where too loose is not too good ,and you may recieve crutches or bedrest. check with your doc.

Good luck,

PS: find a good pediatrician NOW before your baby is born, and be sure to interview them on their practices and see if they are in line with your beliefs.

PPS: Breastfeeding is best - if you find it 'too hard' contact La Leche League, and remember: $50 a month for formula can go to SO MANY other things. And if gas persists, check out Lactose intolerance FIRST. So much else but those are the highlights!

I think it is very common to experience all sorts of aches and pains when you are pregnant - even if you are young. I would be very careful with your knee, talk to your doctor about your pain and see if he can give you a knee brace to help support you during your last trimester. Things should go back to normal after you deliver so try not to hurt yourself now when your joints are vulnerable! Good luck.

There are many things that can be affecting your knees. While you're pregnant, your body makes Relaxin which helps your body change and adjust to carrying the extra weight. This affects all of your joints. There's also sciatic nerve pain which localizes on one side of your body. Try sleeping on your side with a pillow between your knees and ankles. Prenatal yoga or walking laps in a pool may also help.
