You all always give such honest good advice that I thought I'd start with you. I have an aquantance/sister of a friend who will be moving here from Orange Beach Florida. They will be here this weekend for their first visit to Dallas. They are going to be looking for a home in the Flower Mound area because that's where her husband will be working. Wow they are going to be shocked when they see the highways and traffic here. They have never lived anywhere except the slow paced beach town they're moving from. If you have any information that you could pass on to me, I would appreciate it. They have two children ages 8yrs and 4yrs and are going to look for homes around $300K. If you know of any specific neighborhoods that are nice that have amenities such as pool,walking trails, playground, lakes, etc., that info. would be appreciated. Also, if there are any neighborhoods to steer clear of, need to know that too.
I've moved several times in the last six years because of my husbands job transfers. We have only been here for two years and I don't venture out of Frisco so, I don't know anything about Flower Mound. I'd like to help my friend as much as possible because I know how hard it is to move to a strange city and not know anyone or anything about the area.

I love the area where Flower Mound, Highland Village, and Lewisville come together. It is family oriented, lots of bike paths, and I always have people out and about in my neighborhood assuming the weather is decent. If I were house hunting I would use the Shops at Highland Village as a center point and work out from there. As others said Lantana is great.
I've lived in Flower Mound for 24 years, so I have decent knowledge of the area. There are lots of nice neighborhoods in Flower Mound in that price range with those amenities. They should have no problem finding something they like - just contact a realtor in the area. Flower Mound will likely seem faster paced and more traffic than what they might be used to, but it's far better in that respect than many, many other areas (e.g., Plano), especially if he'll be working in Flower Mound. I would not recommend going too far west off of FM 1171 as the traffic out that way is not good given that's it's just a two lane blacktop road at this time. I lived out in western Flower Mound for 16 years and am glad to be back on the East side and about 7 minutes from I-35 E. There are really no non-nice areas in Flower Mound as it's a master planned community, with parks and bike trails even in the cheap part of town. As far as shopping, we now have just about anything you might want nearby, however, the traffic getting to the shops at FM 407 and FM 2499 can be a nightmare, as one of the biggest problems with Flower Mound is that almost all the main thoroughfares are state roads, thus upgrades such as the widening that is desparately needed depends upon the state's budget and timelines. That is really the only negative about Flower Mound. There are alot of trees in the area as it's covered by one of the native forests of North America, so it is definitely one of the prettier cities IMHO. You can look online in Wikipedia and see the demographics.

Trust me they will love all the HOUSE they get for their money..My girfriend moved from Huntington Beach 2 years ago and would not ever move back..She feels for the $$ that she lives in a mansion even though she doesn't..
I love the convenience to schools and shopping where I live: WELLINGTON OF FLOWER MOUND, off Flower Mound Rd & near intersection of Old Settlers..Great community and wonderful schools (Elementary right here, with Middle school next door and FM High 1 mile away)..NICE***

I live in Wellington and love it too. I don't think they can go wrong in Flower Mound though, but I really like the location of Wellington. It seems to be in just the right location as far as avoiding too much traffic and getting to places quickly, if that makes sense.

Lantana! Close to Flower Mound, has all of the amenities including onsite school, and has some shopping/restaurants close by.

Wellington is a great master planned community offering homes in your friends budget and zoned to GREAT schools. Real family oriented neighborhood.
Also, if her husband is working in Flower Mound, she may also consider Lantana. I think it is actually in Argyle but it is a lovely family oriented neighborhood very near Flower Mound.

I second Lantana, it is nice and a little more slow paced and out of the city. But it wouldn't take but 5-10 minutes to get to anything and everything needed. Hey have homes from $150K thru the millions.
Anywhere in Flower mound is great. You can get a lot of house for $300K. They could even check out Lantana or Higland Village. If the want "country" living, they could check out Double Oak and Argyle.

Look into Stonehill Farms and just tell your family to steer clear of 2499 during peak times. It isn't so bad and there are ways around it.
From DFW
-Gerault/Morriss takes you straight through to 407 in Highland Village and it's just a right turn to Stonehill Farms on Valley Ridge
They could also look into the Wellington area which is 2499 to 3040 and go left. Lots of options and nice places to look.

I live in Wellington and recommend it. All of Flower Mound is nice, but there's some folks that prefer one high-school over the other, though both Flower Mound High School and Marcus are excellent schools. Granted she has a few years to go before high-school, but that would be my consideration for where to live. Which would be south of 1171 and west of 2499. Which is where Wellington is...
I can tell you there's a house that's been on the market for a year in Wellington that is on the best street (mine of course!) that would be a good deal if the seller is negotiating now. It's a divorce situation, and he didn't even mow forever and day. But the house and the location are great. (Emerald Cove Drive).
Then there's a house for sale next to a friends in a older part of Flower Mound by the lake, but this house is brand new. It's an area where they're tearing down or remodeling some of the older homes... anyway, I saw the house being built and it's beautiful inside and out. It's on Moonlight Bay. Very different neighborhood than Wellington in that there are no sidewalks or pool or clubhouse, but it's still nice and the houses there go to the same schools, so they might get more for their money there.
