I was wondering if anyone out there has an ideas for my husband's severely sensitive skin. His poor face is practically raw, especially after he shaves. He has little red spots and red splotches on his cheeks, too, which I suspect is dry skin. He's always had this problem somewhat on his neck and jawline where hair grows, but it seems to be getting worse and I have no idea what to do to treat it. Aftershave lotion, even the expensive stuff, doesn't seem to do anything. He has such a handsome face and I hate to see it so raw, not to mention that it's not very comfortable for him. Any ideas would be appreciated.

My husband had similar problems and he now shaves in the shower...the hot steamy shower seems to help soften the facial hair for shaving. He also only shaves with a razor 1-2 times a week. We bought a nice electric razor and keep sharp blades in it and that has seemed to help also.

My husband uses Tolsom. It is for men and is great on sensitive skin. It has also helped with his in-grown hairs. It also lasts a long time. I buy it through my mom, if you would like some more info you can email her ____@____.com her name is Rita
I buy my skin care and makeup products from her also.
Hope you give it a try.

My boyfriend had psuedofalicular barbae, which caused him to have ingrown hairs when he would shave. It's very prevalent in the African American community due to the texture of the hair. It curls around under the skin and causes great discomfort. My boyfriend got laser hair removal on his neck and jawline, which is where he was having most of his discomfort, and he loves it. His face no longer gets irritated. Just a thought, I'm not sure what is going on with your husbands face, but a trip to the dermatologist could do wonders.
Also shaving with a good moisturizing shave soap could help too.

I have a product for severly sensitive skin. I will send you a sample of it. Please forward me your address. You will want him to apply the cream, what 20 second's, make sure he has a good razor and do a clean cut shave. This will help with in grown hair, get reed of the razor burn and make the hair grow back softer. He will love it and I am sure you will love it too. It is next to a brazilian wax without the pain.
Thank you, J. Minor

I don't know if this will help your husband or not, but it shouldn't hurt to try!
My stepdad was having problems when shaving with his skin being very sensitive & bleeding a lot. He was told to try head & shoulders shampoo to shave with. He, of course, thought yeah, right. But he tried it & it worked great for him.
Like I said, may not work but it's not something that will hurt to give a try (& it's not too expensive either).

Good Morning
T. what everyone else has said about Arbonne products is true. My husband was one too that could not shave everyday or everyother day without breaking out. I bought him Arbonne products and he uses the shave gel too and loves it. I have a lady at work who bought the whole line and she said he loves it and his face looks great! I can send you a sample too if you have not already talked to someone and if he likes it, I can show you how to save 35% off.

My first question would be is he allergic to something in the products he is using. If I use something with any form of wheat or milk in it... my skin does the same thing. Sometimes our skin is very good at telling us when something is harming the rest of our body. Does he ever have headaches, muscle aches or stomachaches??? The skin could be telling him something else.

Dear T.
Good Morning! Two things I would suggest you do.
First go to the library and see if they have a
book called Nutritional Healing By Phyllis A. Balch
and James F. Balch. In this book is a section on dry
skin it has didn't foods to avoid and ones you should
eat. Then the second thing is go to a good health food
store and they can recommend things for you to use for
your husband. I hope this gives you help for your husband.
Have a great week. B. K.

I am with a company that sells bath and body products and we have a dye free, fragrance free bath bar soap that can be used for shaving. Also, shea butter that is a moiturizer and healer in itself. If you are interested please visit my website www.jordanrep.com/8708. I have seen these products heal such sensitive skin and dry, cracked skin. It is amazing.

Does your husband use an electric razor? Before I purchased an electric one for my husband before we were married, he used the old shaving cream and razor and it tore up his face. Now with the electric razor he has a lot less trouble.

It sounds like he may have eczema. I developed it over the winter and my skin was getting raw in places around my hip area and my legs had blisters on them. I now use Aveeno body wash and lotion and I have cleared up alot. Don't buy the Wal-Mart brand even though it's cheaper stick with the Aveeno brand only and try that and see how it works for you.

I have extremely sensitive skin. I've dumped most commercial products and use plain Witch Hazel - best after shave there is. No chemicals, fragrances, or other nasty stuff. Also far less expensive. Another suggestion for general skin redness, grow some Aloe plants, they are great for everything. Give them lots of direct sun and water a lot but only once a month. Soon you'll have more than you can ever use (so share with others). Just break off a 'branch' or whatever they are called and spread directly on the skin. A tad gooey, but immensely soothing. Also great for sun burns, other burns, wounds, the list is huge. Antisceptic Antibacterial antifungal as well. Natural cures work great and can save you a fortune.

My husband has thick facial hair and had a similar problem: after he'd shave, he would break out in red bumps, some of which would turn to whiteheads and it would look like a bad case of acne. It was difficult to see his handsome face so sore and red.
He looked into laser hair removal for his neck/cheeks and decided to pull the trigger (still wanted to keep hair for a goatee when he wants it). It has been night and day for him. While the laser treatments did hurt (puffy and red for a day or so), his hair thinned out and the hairs also became thinner where laser treatments were done. He rarely has any problems when he shaves now - mostly when he decided to shave off the goatee (where his hair is still thicker).
Definitely check with a dermatologist first to make sure he doesn't have a skin condition - but - if he is tired of his problem, maybe he should look into laser hair removal.
Hope this helps. Good luck to you both.

Try plain rubbing alcohol with a heavy lotion or cream, use a facial lotion for sensative skin (oil of olay is the best). This is a trick that I have given many patients that I have had to shave for testing at the office that I worked at. I is a wonderful trick that helps with dry rash and razor burn for skin. It also helps to reduce rawness. The rubbing alcohol will help to toughen the skin and also help to clean out the pores and the hair shaft. The lotion will help to lubricate the hair shaft and also soften the hair folicle. Hope this works, L.

Hi T.,
My husbands skin is the same way. But he started taking vitamins from GNC (it's a mens health pack) you can get them for different activity levels, my husband is going to the gym so he got a work out type of vitamin. It has really helped him alot. He doesn't even have to lotion anymore, and he used to go thru a whole bottle in one shower. Hope this helps, W. B.

Hi T.,
I would simply try adding some type of Omega 3 fats into his diet. I added fish oil supplements into my husbands supplement intake, as he had horribly dry skin and dandruff!! He doesn't have a problem anymore. The omega 3s do great with dry skin, dry eyes, brain function, aching joints, among many other things. We, as americans get far too many omega 6 and not enough omega 3!! Hope that helps, good luck.

Hi T.,
Have you had ya'll's water checked? If it's really "Hard" then that could be a big part of it. Has he been checked for eczama (sp?) or allergies? My youngest son used to break out into a rash on the same place in his stomach and it turned out to be allergies. I know a great doc for that.
Let me know if you need more info!

coconut oil inside and out... forget the aftershave lotion... he needs to heal. Google coconut oil and you will see why. It will help moisten his skin and heal it. It is the best shaving lotion in the world as well as good for so many other things... it is also antiviral and anti bacterial. We don't get sick anymore. Just use it instead of other cooking oils

Would he go to the doctor? He could be sensitive, or allergic to something in the products that he is using. Your body changes and you can use something that you have used before and have a different reaction to it. I would really consider checking with the doctor.

AVON. Okay hear me out. I am an Avon sales rep and a stay at home mom, my husband had the same problem until we started using avons skin care system and he startinng using the aftershave lotion and it has gotten much better. Consistency counts but it is inexpensive and worth trying. Good Luck!
If it is that bad he needs to see a Dermatologist,he may have an unknown skin condition that he doesn't know he has.

Sounds very similar to what my husband has had for years now- "adult acne" is what we were told, anyway-he uses an over-the-counter cream called Acnomel, it can be hard to find, just call your usual pharmacy and they should keep it on the shelf for you. It is about $10 a tube, which lasts better than a month. He uses it daily, we call it his make-up :)
Hope this helps, it really did for us. Oh, don't use anything with hydrogen peroxide in it as he probably has an allergy to it as well.
Good luck!!

I did not read all the responses, however, my husband also has very sensitive skin. He use Women's shaving cream on his face and it helps tremendously. He used Skintamate for Sensitive skin. It sounds funny and I thought he was out of of his mind when he told me. But it works for him. He has used it for years. Macho Guys think he is out of his mind, but he swears by it. It is a cheap thing to try and if it works great.

This is going to sound absolutely ridiculous but several years ago I attended one of those "Slumber Parties"...they sell bedroom "toys"....I was much younger and sillier back then. Anyway, they sell a product called "Coochie" (I know...) The big marketing tool that they use with this one is to use it as a shaving cream and you won't have any sort of red marks or razor burn. I bought it for my husband and it's his total miracle! He loves it! No more razor burn and a little goes A LONG WAY.
My mom still does Christmas stockings every year for all of us and what does she put in my husband's stocking? Yes, my mom buys "Coochie" for her son-in-law LOL!!!

Hi T.,
First off, just because something is expensive doesn't mean it is the best out there to use. I have read many ingredient labels and most of them contain the same cheap chemical ingredients as the cheap stuff.
Second, stay away from products that contain alcohol, artificial sulfates and phosphates as these are all skin irritants.
I would recommend checking into Daisy Blue Naturals products. They have a Silk Shave Cream that is wonderful! Very moisturizing and allows the blade to glide effortlessly. They also have some great men's products too.
you might try aveeno lotion I have eczema and it seems to work really well for me. Sounds like he might have that he should see a dr. Also he might try and also use a shave gel.

My husband also had a problem with his skin. I bought him some Arbonne skin care stuff for men and it really seemed to work. Now he only uses their shaving lotion/cream and never seems to have problems. I use it to for my bikini line and never get a rash. I think it is NutriMenC Shaving Lotion. Another thing I have heard at least for the bikini line was to put diaper rash ointment on it and it helped. I have never done it, but I read about it in a different request on here! I guess you could do a search and find the info-it was only a month ago or so! Hope something helps him. Oh, I don't "sell" Arbonne, but I can order it for you if you are interested. I just buy it for myself and friends at a discount.

You might try having him shave with Cetaphil face wash (or the generic of it works great, too). Then if he needs something additional he may try Cetaphil lotion. They are both great. I hope it gets better!

I don't know if this helps or not, but it may be worth a try. I have heard that if you soak a washcloth in milk and then soak your face, skin, etc. with it, that it will take the redness and irritation away. I have heard that this works on diaper rash as well as sunburn. Like I said, I don't know this from experience, but it would be a low cost and easy way of healing your husbands skin if it does work!!

Does he have oily or dry skin? Does he react to laundry detergents/softeners?
Shaklee makes a wonderful skin care line that is Nutrition for the Skin - It is called Enfuselle (means 'infusing the cell'). This product line is made with an exclusive natural preservative system and Shaklee guarantees that if you are NOT satisfied - you get your money back! So there is NO Risk!
This is a truly amazing product line and has produced some amazing results for people. To start, I would suggest the Gentle Cleansing Bar to lather and shave and then Hydrating Toner for anyone with sensitive skin. There are several other products that will be very helpful...BUT, It is extremely important to add one product at a time so you will be able to determine what helps and what doesn't.
If you choose to do this Please contact me for the complete schedule, all outlined as to the correct procedure.
A Little bit about me: I am a Shaklee Dist. and a Health and Wellness Advisor. I help people make informed choices and lifestyle changes to improve their individual health and/or the health of the environment. AND...Yes I recommend safe, non-toxic 'green' cleaners to everyone, even those who don't have sensitive skin. My website is www.shaklee.net/ser If I can help in any other way - please let me know.

Not sure if it's the same, but my husband has something that sounds similar. The dr. actually prescribed a shampoo (I know, who'd have thought that was the problem?) and it totally helps. I can't remember what the prescription is now, but I'd recommend he ask his dr or a dermatologist about it. Good luck!
