Maybe sending him a football or a tiara?
Congrats!
I also like the lil' cake with the pink or blue on the inside!
Ok mamas, I am 16 weeks pregnant and have an ultrasound sent up in 2 weeks, but my hubby is in the Army and gone about 2hrs away. I want to tell him in a special way as it has been hard on him being gone since shortly after we found out and missing all my dr apts and ultrasounds (i have had several ultrasounds and dr apts as I am high risk) expecually since we lost a baby last summer. We are going to visit this weekend and I have thought about giving him 2 packages that look identical and say #1 or #2 on them and tell him witch to open after i have my ultrasound, or since my maternial fetal dr is almost half way to where he is going up and supprising him when he gets off work by standing there with a balloon (green, white, ext - not blue or pink) with a note inside saying "its a boy" or "its a girl" and he had to pop the balloon to get the note. but I am not sure about either idea and would love some ideas from you wanderful mamas.

Send him a cake with the insides being either pink or blue!
Two gifts boxed and wrapped: a baseball glove and a tiara.
How about a package in which there is a journal, and on the front page you write what gender the child will be. He can then write his thoughts/messages to the new little one even before s/he is born. This will always be a part of his life and his child's life and will (perhaps) establish an early bond that with his distance might be very difficult. He could even write about how he misses going to dr. appts. etc. etc.
I have heard or new cakes or cupcakes that are iced white or non gender and inside they have a surprise color icing of either blue or pink. cute idea. Or you could get a bouquet of flowers either pink or blue and give them to him. or wrap a baby outfit/onesie that is either blue or pink and let him open it as his gift. You can get a t shirt made saying something like It's a girl/boy and an arrow pointing to your belly. congrats to you!
Everything I do involves food in some way...
Go the the party store and get a package of all pink or all blue M&Ms. Make him a batch of M&M cookies using that color.
Since Easter is coming up, make him an Easter basket. If its a boy, fill the basket with a chunky toy truck, baseball glove, and a toy puppy. If its a girl, fill the basket with candy lipstick, a doll and a toy kitten.
Stop at the grocery store on the way to see him. Get some cupcakes with either pink or blue frosting.
Girls = sugar and spice. Send him some Snickerdoodle cookies.
Boys = frogs and snails and puppy dog tails. Send him some escargo, or make him some candy snails.

My niece got 2 stuffed bears...one pink...on blue. Set them up in front of her husband and told him to close his eyes. Then she removed the apporiate one the one left standing was the sex of the baby. She told him to open his eyes....and KAZAAAAAMMMM.....there ya go!
While you are together, why not have like 2 dozen pink or blue balloons delivered?
Could you have him on speaker phone with you during your US? I feel for your poor husband, this has to be tough on him!!
For our first we had them write down the sex of the baby, instead of disclosing it at the ultasoundand, put it in an envelope. We then opened it that night at dinner. It was a special way for us to celebrate together.
