Need Ideas for Homemade Christmas Gifts

My in-laws decided that Christmas is just for the kids, so they are not buying gifts for my husband or I. In return, they asked that we don't get anything for them. That's fine for me but I feel that the kids should give something to their grandparents. I need some ideas for simple gifts they can make. Last year we did the foam ornaments with their picture in the middle, so I want to do something different. Keep in mind that my kids are 4 years old and 20 month old twins. Most likely the 4 year old will be the main one/only one participating in this project. All ideas welcome! Thanks

I plan on getting coffee mugs with my kids picture on it and then with the kids, making hot chocolate packages to place in them. I figure my 3 year old can help me put the chocolate mix in while my 15 month old can either fill a seperate little bag for marshmallows (if he doesn't eat them all) or find bag that will hold the mix and let both kids color them.

Good luck!

If you don't want to have the kids make something, you can always get the grandparents are really nice family photo and frame. or what about one of those digital frames where the pix change?

My inlaws are the same way...we made a scrapbook for each grandma...it was compiled of pics of special events through out the year..and my mother in law loved it so much and bragged to all the other relatives...she requested her next xmas gift to be more pages....we also made cookie bouquets...I went to micheals, bought small squared wooden pots..painted them and put the kids hand prints on each side with the date..we wrote "Grandma" on the front with glitter paint....stuffed styrofoam in it....i let the kids pick out the cookie cutters..so there were flowers, bunnies, snowmen, xmas trees...u can find "lollipop cookie" recipes on line.. and the kids loved decorating them..we arranged them in the pot..and i put cellophane paper over the whole thing, or you can wrap each cookie seperately..tied a nice xmas bow with a card the kids made....my mother inlaw loved it..and has the pot on her mantel with a little x-mas tree on it...it has become part of her seasonal decorations..hope the info helps..

My sisters grandchildren (her step-daughters children) gave her a calendar. They took picture of themselves and each month is a different picture of her 2 grandsons. You can either have it done a Walmart, Walgreens, etc. or there is free do it your self calendars on-line and then go to Office Deport and they can bind it together for a couple dollars.

I just love the idea. Maybe one day when I have grandchildren.

Maybe plaster handprints with the date and name for memories. My MIL wears a bead bracelet that one of her grandkids made for her. You could get more ideas from some place like Hobby Lobby. This might be too advanced for young kids but here's a website with nice directions on how to's:

There are also recipes on the net for bownies in a mug or cake in a mug; just add wet ingredient type things then microwave. Just type in your search engine and all you have to buy is a nice mug, maybe with one of the kids picture and a poem they wrote or somehing.

what about picture frames? You can get them cheap at a craft store or even the dollar store and get little foam or wooden shapes (christmas themed if you like) and paint them and glue them to the frame to decorate...then inside the frame you can either put a picture of the kids or have them make finger paintings or other pictures.

You could also do christmas cookies or snacks in christmas tins...that is what i plan on doing this year.

Another idea is getting some mason jars and filling them with some hot cocoa mix and then decorating the jar with ribbon or yarn (just make a bow and tie it around the mouth of the jar after you put the lid on). good luck!
