Hi! We are painting the outside of our house soon, and I can't for the life of me decide on the colors! I am up for anything. I would just like a real updated "new house" look. Any suggestions what colors are "in" or look great together? We need main color and trim. help!

What can I do next?

If I were you I would drive around new subdivisions and see what catches your eye. We are currently building a house but I probably chose colors that would scare other people (I am an interior designer, so I am a little more brave!) We are doing a taupe vertical siding with a rock wainscot, harbor blue horizontal siding in the eaves, cream colored trim and copper colored metal roofing as accent above the porch only. The rest of the roof will be black with just a little brown. If your house has some rock or something you may want to just take your colors out of that. I personally think a lighter color trim with a darker color on the main part of the house looks much more up to date than light with dark trim. Good luck!

I was hoping you were in Boise so I could tell you about this beautiful neighborhood to drive through. It has such colorful homes! The colors were mostly brick red, moss green, deep mustard yellow, and various shades of tan and brown.
Oooh, I just had an idea. If you click on this link:
http://maps.google.com/maps?f=q&hl=en&geocode=&am...
and click on "Street View" you can do a virtual drive through of the neighborhood! You can turn to look at the houses, drive down the street, etc. You can do the same if you hear of another new neighborhood, although I think that not all cities have the street view option on Google Maps.

I agree with Kate. Drive around and find houses you really like. You can even knock on the door and ask if you can try to match their paint choices to your color swatches. Most people are flattered and may even have a paint swatch or leftover sample paint. Get one of those giant paint color swatch/sample 'books' available at paint stores. They have every color in the rainbow and you can try to match colors you like with different brands of paint. When you narrow down some choices, paint samples on your house and trim (maybe in the back) so you can see it in different light settings. Also, if you live in an HOA covenant controlled neighborhood, you may need to submit your choices to them for approval. Happy painting!

I agree with the others, drive around and look at other homes. We have a community here that has fun color houses. You can use the same google street view the first commenter used to view these homes. http://maps.google.com/maps?f=q&hl=en&geocode=&am...

Hi! In our neighborhood, several people have opted for Chocolate Brown. I think it looks beautiful! Good Luck!

I'm doing my house trim this summer. I have never liked it! lol. Our stucco is a creamy tan color and I love that but they pulled the pinkish color from our bricks for the trim (shudder) I am going to pull the dark chocolate brown color out of the brick instead and do a rich brown. I agree with driving around to find what you love, what stands out to you. and if you have a part of your architecture you love to work with colors/theme from that. I love the brick for example but don't want to highlight the pinks in it, so I am pulling out the browns. My big debate now is the front door...red or green? lol
