I first want to thank everyone for there help. I'm still trying to get rid of it. I do know for a fact that it didn't go anywhere knew the spots it had te first two times since i've have no traps touched or sticky pads moved. but it has gotten to the new spot for the dog food. I still see no droppings but i made the hubby go under the house and put rat tablets down (ones from his farm) and from the 10 we put down we can only find 3. Nothing smells yet but time will tell.

You could try to trap it with a Havaheart live trap. Then you would know what you're dealing with and then take it away and set it free. I have always felt that with poison, they eat it and then crawl away and die. Then you have a horrible stink to deal with. Yuck!! Good luck!

Get traps. Glue traps are gross because you have to dispose of a hrashing rodent & it's usuallu in the middle of the night. Mice travel along the perimeter of rooms so put them along the walls. Mice can enter through a hole the size of a pencil eraser.
I highly recommend a pest control service. Not cheap but worth it.

Not sure what it could be. We had chipmunks in our attic and inside our walls once. We bought things that plug into the walls and are supposed to deter rodents from coming in your house. We also put bowls of mashed potato flakes around for them to eat. We were told this trick by our local pest control guy. They eat the flakes and the flakes enlarge while in their stomachs. If they only eat a little they get a bad stomach ache and won't come back. If they eat a lot their stomachs explode from the pressure and they die. The only problem is if they die in your walls it will smell pretty bad for a while. Ours didn't do this. If they died, they died outside our house somewhere. Not sure which one of those two things worked but we didn't have a rodent problem again. We did have two mice after that (I had unplugged the rodent deterrents) but we got those both with snap traps with peanut butter on them. We tried cheese but they were able to steal that right off the traps so we set them with peanut butter. I don't use the sticky traps because my parents used to use them. I have seen those things with just legs stuck on there and the mouse is gone. Yuck!! Good luck!!

Try putting a giant rock over the spot you think it is coming through, it won't be able to move it or pull through the whole. Also, the best thing I've discovered is a mouse trap w/peanut butter on it. It gets the animal and you can just get rid of it. With the decon, it crawls somewhere to die and the house will strink for months while it's rotting. Good luck

I have 6 cats and absolutely no problem with rodents!! (LOL) If getting a housefull of cats isn't in the cards for you, I would suggest a consult with an exterminator because they could a - tell what kind of creature you have a problem with and b - get rid of it without harming your pets or child. Be REALLY, REALLY careful with poisons and traps are pretty gruesome too. Just a consult probably wouldn't cost much.

The only thing I can think of this early is to get a cat. I have neighbors that want to borrow mine to get rid of mice in their homes.

It sounds more like a squirrel or chipmunk, they grab stuff and bring it back to their nest. Mice and rats eat where they find the food and thus leave droppings. First thing you need to do is stop leaving food out. If they dont find food they will stop looking. Then get the expandable foam insulation in cans, its not expensive, and fill in the holes in your kitchen walls. You also might try chicken wire around your foundation, but rodents can chew through chicken wire if they want to bad enough.

The foam spray that many people are recommending is a good temporary fix, but what ever it is can chew through it pretty easily if it wants to. It may be enough to make it give up, but it might not. It's cheap enough to give it a try. If it doesn't work, call a professional. They will tell you what it is and know the best ways to keep it away. Good luck!

With a child and pets in the house, it's time to call in a handyman and get all the holes inside and outside of the house closed properly, and get the trim up as well, other wise what ever process you decide to use in getting rid of the critters would be a total waste of time and money.
All critters are dangerous....they all bite, and if they don't have rabies, they carry ticks and fleas.

If you can't afford a handyman, find a neighbor, friend, or relative who's handy to get the work done for you.

In the meantime, keep all packaged foods in your fridge...and take your garbage out often...especially at night before going to bed.

I live in the country and shortly after I moved into my home, I discovered I had to deal with 2 very large snakes, a colony of 400 bats, some mice and several rats the size of cats. I tried everything, and everything failed until I hired a professional handyman to close off all the holes inside and out side of the house. A specialty professional was also hired to deal with the bats....come to find out they are an endangered species...for them all but one hole was closed and a one way door was built over this hole....so once they went out to feed, they couldn't get back in....two weeks later the one way door was removed and the hole was closed off. I also had bat watches from all over the county camping out on my lawn...My infested home seemed to become a social event.

It was a long and hard and expensive process for me in getting ride of all the critters, both bat specialist and handyman worked together and then I first called in an exterminator once the other guys were finished.....at least now I know I'm living alone..
Twice a year in early spring and late fall I put opened trays of d-con bait pellets in my basement and crawl spaces for mice and rats...one box in each area...and find the trays are full when I change them....this is a good sign that I'm still living alone. I still keep all packaged foods in my fridge and take out my garbage when I'm done in the kitchen every evening.

I live in a very wooded area and sometimes get a few field mice. The only way to get rid of them 100% is a rat trap. It's gross but easy. At night, just put a dab of peanut butter on some bread, set the trap and turn off the lights. I can guarantee to you that within a 1/2 hour, you will hear a loud snap. If you do, go and rebait the trap and see if you get another one. Keep doing this until no one is eating your food. Then, it's time to patch the holes to keep them out. Perhaps some bait (where the baby and dog can't get to it) is a good idea, too.

You can hire an exterminator but it will be cheaper to do it all yourself. Traps, baits, etc.

Good luck! Oh, and if you have mice/rats, you have droppings. Check under the stove and in the pantry where the food is. Tops of cans, etc. is where the droppings collect! Ugh, gross.
