I accidentally put a new purple pillow sham cover into the regular laundry. It's dyed all of our laundry pink! I pulled out everything that wasn't affected and washed the rest with one cup of vinegar (didn't do anything) and then one scoop of oxiclean plus our regular detergent with half an hour of soaking. Still no change! Anyone have any idea how to fix my laundry???

Rit (the color dye company) makes a product that is a color remover. It is packaged in a small box just like the color dyes. My friend's mom swears by it. She shops at a lot of garage sales and uses it to get stains out of clothes. Anyway my brand new khakis came out of the wash with red all over them. I used the Rit color remover and it all came off. You will probably need a few boxes for a load of laundry. Good luck!

Hi S.,

Get a bucket, put in a cup of OxiClean and about a gallon of water - put the items in the bucket to soak for several hours (I usually leave my suspects in overnight). Dump the entire mess into the washing machine and wash out the next day. If the dye is going to come out, that should do it. I had an ink pen explode on a white shirt that I loved on vacation so was unable to address the issue for several days until I got home - and the stain came out using this solution! Good luck!

You might try washing soda--one of my grandmother's favorites. It is usually found on the laundry detergent aisle. I soaked my son's white football pants that had been washed with his new navy football socks in straight non-chlorine bleach, washed them, and then soaked them in the washing soda and washed them again. It took about a week of soaking and washing, but he had the whitest pants on the team. If you still have stains and if you can find a nice sunny day, you can also try putting lemon juice on the stain and then laying them out in the sun all day.

Sorry to inform you but vinegar is commonly used to set the color in items after dying so you now own a load of nice pink laundry. Really I do feel badly for you. Ive had this happen over the years and it is frustrating, but the way I look at it is, we weren't going to wear those clothes forever, its not a major thing, and I learned a lesson from the experience. Laugh at it and just move on. (You now have more play clothes, yardwork clothes, and rags) (o:

Oh dear, I'm afraid to tell you that vinegar is used to set dye . . . I actually use a vinegar soak to set the dye on clothes that bleed a lot. I would try the Oxiclean but in a strong concentration, that might work. I usually fill up the kitchen sink and put 4 or 5 scoops of Oxiclean in it, then soak the clothes (usually my daughter's shirts and pants with marker stains etc.). This works really well, don't be afraid of using a lot of OxiClean.

Good luck!

Try Oxycleaning it in your bathtub for the day.

Bleach?

Recently I had a load of white laundry get yellow spots all over it and I have no idea why?! (There was nothing yellow in the wash, to my knowledge.) I had some success running it through a hot water cycle with bleach, but a few items remained stubbornly yellow. They have since been turned into cleaning rags. =(

I'm not sure if this can be saved because vinegar is what will help to set the color. You may have some luck if you just run the load a few more times in cold water without anything added.

In the section of the fabric store where you can buy fabric dye, you can also buy fabric dye remover. It's made by Ritz and usually comes in a small box that contains a waxed paper packet inside - much like the way Jello and Pudding comes in a box. Ask the people at the fabric store to show you where it is, and then follow the instructions on the box. Good luck!!!
