We just keep each sport in its bag - they hang on their own hook in their closets, and the clean uniform goes on a hanger on the same hook - when it's time to go, they grab it for the car.
Help! I feel like I am being taken over by sports equipment! I have two children both involved in multiple sports. There are balls of every kind, bats, gloves, pucks, socks, multiple shoes, hats, visors....ugh! Don't get me wrong, I love them being involved in sports, going to their games, coaching and just all of it. I just need some ideas on how to get all this stuff organized and quickly accessible. Thanks for your suggestions!

We've converted our old toy box into a gear box. It holds all my sons dirtbike gear, sports gear, etc. We have a small bin for socks and hats. I'm also looking for a large hamper to keep all of our balls in. All of these things are right together so he doesn't have to spend any time at all wondering where they are, he just grabs what he needs and puts them on. Hope this helps!
We have a "uniform drawer" in the dresser. Shin guards, shorts, belts, pants, jerserys, all of it go in there. When the seasons is over, he still likes to wear his jerseys, but we keep the shorts, pant, belts, etc. in the drawer. We had recycled several things. Equipment stays in the garage. I use a big tote, but I know Wal-Mart has a great organizer. We just keep ours in the garage. It has made a big difference. Besides, balls shouldn't be in the house anyway. He knows where it is and we grab what we need on the way out. Also, if we are playing with him in the yard, it makes the stuff easily accessible. Keep with it, you will prevail!
My son is almost two, so we don't have this problem yet...but, my mother had something like the things at this link in our garage when I was in high school:

On those organizing shows I've seen mini lockers, a rack in the garage to hang bats etc. and I've seen them have a basket for each sport. Guess it would depend on what kind of room you have. if you get on HGTV web site, and put in sports orginazation, hopefully the right site will come up, or maybe tell you when one would be televised, as sometimes they have very good ideas on their organization show.
Make a space for each sport. With buckets and hooks. And have it in a designated area. Then get the kiddos involved in making sure everything is were it needs to be and ready for the next event.
GOOD LUCK
A great holder for balls is a mesh laundry hamper (the collapsible kind) or a mesh laundry bag (with a drawstring).
Once you get the balls up off the floor, there shouldn't be as much other items to have to manage.
Hope it helps,

K.,
I tried using designated areas for eq. But I couldnt get the kids to discipline themselves to maintain that order very well. so What I did was got big cheap bags from like Walmart (duffle type) and Wrote on each one the sport the EQ belong to. It was so successful I now use the same idea with my video and music equipment. This helps my boys when loading and unloading my stuff for me.
I do miss those days. I only have two left in football and will be varsity this year.
